The commander of Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN, Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., visited two battalions in Lanao del Norte on February 17 to assess troop readiness.

He met with personnel from the 44th Infantry Battalion and 5th Infantry Mechanized Battalion, emphasizing leadership presence, operational preparedness, and soldiers’ welfare.

Maj.Gen. Barroquillo Jr. reinforced unity and shared responsibility among the troops, reviewed the security situation, commended their performance, and provided food support to frontline personnel.

LOOK |5th Infantry Battalion marks 76th anniversary in Lanao del Sur

The 5th Infantry “Duty Bound” Battalion marked its 76th founding anniversary Feb. 16, 2026, highlighting service, peace efforts and fi****ms control initiatives.

The 5th Infantry Battalion, under the 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army, held the ceremony at Kampo Agila in Barangay Ragayan, attended by local officials, stakeholders and troops. The unit highlighted its Small Arms and Light Weapons Management Program aimed at reducing illegal fi****ms through community collaboration.

The battalion also recognized local government units for strong civil-military partnerships supporting peace and development initiatives across its area of responsibility. Outstanding personnel were commended for exemplary service.

Lt. Col. Mark Francis N. Garcia, commanding officer, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to unity, discipline and sustained peace efforts, while 1st Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr. lauded the battalion’s integrity and mission readiness.
