Student filmmakers of eleven short films, spotlighting the stories of Filipino farmers and agrarian reform beneficiaries, took center stage at the PelikulAgraryo 2025 Awarding Ceremony, held on June 30, 2025, at Valencia Hall, Marcian Garden Hotel.
The event honored college students from Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU), Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), and Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU).
With the theme โPag-ani sa mga Pangarap: Mga Kwento ng Pag-asa at Tagumpay sa Agraryo,โ the awarding ceremony celebrated films that reflect hope, perseverance, and transformation in agrarian communities.
In his opening remarks, Regional Director Atty. Ramon E. Madroรฑal, Jr., emphasized the significance of the event: โIt is time to showcase the successes of our agrarian reform beneficiaries and agrarian reform beneficiary organizations. That is the essence of PelikulAgraryo 2025: to let the struggles and successes of our ARBs and ARBOs be heard and recognized through cinematic storytelling by the student filmmakers here tonight.โ
Assistant Secretary Jose Jenil C. Demorito of the Special Concerns and External Affairs and Communications Operations Office (SCEACOO) and Concurrent Director for Public Information Services (P*S) and Strategic Communications Lead Coordinator for Project SPLIT graced the Awarding Ceremony and expressed his gratitude to the students and their schools for โanswering our nationwide clarion call. He stated, โTonight, we honor our farmers, whom we fondly call our agrarian reform beneficiaries at DAR. We also honor our students, the youth, who represent the hope of our fatherland, for responding to our call. By submitting your eleven short film entries, you have demonstrated your love for your country.โ
A total of 11 finalist films competed in two categories: the Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organization (ARBO) Category and the Agrarian Reform Beneficiary (ARB) Category. In his closing remarks, Atty. Marcelino Marata, the OIC-Assistant Regional Director for Admin and Legal, commended the filmmakers for using cinema to elevate the voices of rural communities and showcase the impact of agrarian reform. He said, โOn social media, we see many reels from vloggers sharing all kinds of information. However, the success stories of our farmers often remain sidelined. This event is a timely effort to contribute narratives that inspire our agrarian reform beneficiaries, and the younger generation, encouraging them to engage in farming or to utilize social media to share stories that are worth telling.โ
