In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.- 1 Peter 5:5-6
This powerful verse reminds us that God places leaders in our lives for a reason — pastors, mentors, and men and women of God who are called to guide us spiritually. As part of our growth in Christ, we are called to clothe ourselves with humility toward one another.
True humility is not thinking of yourself as worthless, weak, or unimportant. True humility is knowing who you are and understanding your identity in the Lord while still remaining teachable, submissive, and willing to be guided.
Many people misunderstand submission as control, but biblical submission is not about manipulation or superiority. It is about trusting God’s order and allowing Him to align our lives through the people He has appointed to lead, teach, correct, and strengthen us.
Humility allows growth.
Pride resists instruction.
But a humble heart understands that God can use authority, leadership, correction, and guidance to shape us into who He wants us to become.
🫰The goal is not control.
The goal is alignment with the ways of God.
So if you truly want to grow and not remain stuck in the same situation, the same mindset, or the same spiritual condition, humility is the only way.
Growth begins when pride ends.
God cannot fully lead a person who refuses correction, guidance, accountability, or submission. But a humble heart is teachable. A humble heart is willing to listen, willing to learn, and willing to follow the direction God places through godly leadership.

Pride says, “I already know.”
Humility says, “Lord, teach me.”
And according to Scripture, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
