Most Rev. Ronald Anthony P. Timoner, STL, D.D. was ordained and installed as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of Pagadian on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, coinciding with his 54th birthday.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration and Rite of Canonical Possession were held at Santo Niรฑo Cathedral Parish Church, drawing bishops, clergy, religious, and lay faithful from across the country.
Appointed by Pope Francis on April 2, 2025, Bishop Timoner succeeds the late Bishop Ronald Lunas, who passed away on January 2, 2024.
The Diocese of Pagadian had since been under the pastoral care of Apostolic Administrator Archbishop Martin Jomuad.
The principal consecrator was Most Rev. Martin Jomuad, Archbishop of Ozamiz, assisted by Most Rev. Gilbert A. Garcera, Archbishop of Lipa, and Most Rev. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon, Archbishop of Caceres.
In his homily, Archbishop Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines reminded the new bishop that leadership in the Church is rooted in service, โWe are called to feed the flock not for our glory, but for the love of the Lord who entrusted them to our care,โ he said.
Addressing the faithful after his installation, Bishop Tonette expressed gratitude for the trust given him by the Holy Father and the Church, โI am humbled by this mission entrusted to me. I pray that the Lord may guide my steps and make me a shepherd after His own heart,โ he said.
Born on August 13, 1971, in Daet, Camarines Norte, Bishop Timoner studied philosophy at Holy Rosary Minor Seminary in Naga City and theology at the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary in Manila.
He earned his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome and was ordained a priest on May 1, 1997, for the Diocese of Daet.
Bishop Timoner is the younger brother of Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner III, O.P., the current Master of the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order).
The Diocese of Pagadian, erected in 1971, covers the entire province of Zamboanga del Sur, serving more than 1.3 million Catholics in 26 parishes.
