AUMENTADO TO SEEK RECONSIDERATION IN CONTROVERSIAL CAPTAIN’S PEAK CASE

Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado is fighting back.

Amid graft allegations tied to the controversial Captain’s Peak Resort built at the foot of the iconic Chocolate Hills, Aumentado confirmed his legal team is preparing a motion for reconsideration to challenge the Ombudsman’s recommendation to file charges.

The resort became the center of a national firestorm after a viral drone video in March 2024 showed concrete structures and swimming pools encroaching on the protected landscape in Sagbayan town. The footage sparked public outrage, environmental outcry, and congressional probes.

The Office of the Ombudsman alleges that Aumentado and several officials allowed the resort to operate without key environmental permits — including an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

But Aumentado is pushing back, maintaining that he immediately ordered a formal investigation when the issue surfaced in 2023. “I have not violated any law,” he said, vowing to fully respond to the resolution.

Despite the controversy, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to public service, saying his administration stands firm in upholding environmental protection while pursuing sustainable development for Bohol.

| The Davao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 10 has issued several alias warrants of arrest against retired police officer Arturo Lascañas, a self-proclaimed member of the Davao Death Squad, for online libel, murder, and attempted murder complaints.

The court ordered law enforcement to arrest Lascañas pursuant to multiple warrants for (1) online libel in violation of Section 4(c)(4) of Republic Act No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which has a bail bond at P48,000; (2) an alias warrant for murder with no bail recommended; and (3) two counts of attempted murder charges that have a bail bond set at P120,000 for each count.

Lascañas recently left the country and testified before the International Criminal Court (ICC), pointing to former President Rodrigo Duterte as the alleged mastermind of extrajudicial killings.

All warrants instructed law enforcement agencies to serve them within 10 days of receipt with a required written explanation for failure to do so. | via Batas Ph
