Croissant (/krəˈsɑːnt, ˈk(r)wæsɒ̃/,French: [kʁwasɑ̃]is a French Viennoiserie in a crescent shape made from a laminated yeast dough that sits between a bread and a puff pastry. The dough is layered with butter, rolled and folded several times in succession, then rolled into a thin sheet, in a technique called laminating. The process results in a layered, flaky texture.
