๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—–๐—”๐—Ÿ ๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | As part of the nation-wide protests against corruption, students, progressive groups, activists, and runners joined local protests in Tacloban and Matag-ob to respond on the growing call for transparency and accountability in the Philippine government, Sunday, September 21.

In RTR Plaza Tacloban City, students, groups, and farmers joined the โ€œLeyte Aksyon Laban sa Korapsyonโ€ urging officials and contractors to be held accountable for the anomalous multi-trillion peso flood control scandal, as well as other alleged corruption issues within the government. Protesters carried placards and banners, chanting slogans that echoed the demand for justice and integrity in public service.

Meanwhile, delivery riders staged a motorcade protest but were blocked by Philippine National Police-Tacloban as the riders did not secure a permit, per PNP Tacloban.

Further, the 4th District Trifecta Alliance Fun Run in Matag-ob, Leyte, was also held with the theme: โ€œDagan Kontra Korapsyon, Alang sa Himorasak nga Kaugmaonโ€ gathering runners, advocates, and community members in a unified effort to combine fitness with civic responsibility.

Participants of the fun run emphasized that standing against corruption goes beyond the streets of protestsโ€”it can also be expressed through activities that inspire solidarity, wellness, and social awareness. The fun run not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also carried the message of hope for a brighter and corruption-free future.

Both the rallies in Tacloban City and the fun run in Matag-ob are few of the mass movements around Region 8 symbolizing the peopleโ€™s collective voice against corruption.

MANILA โ€“ An estimated 80,000 Filipinos gathered to protest against corruption at the โ€œBaha sa Luneta: Aksyon na Laban sa Korapsyonโ€ at Luneta Park in Manila and the โ€œTrillion Peso Marchโ€ at EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, according to estimates of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and progressive group Bayan on Sunday, September 21.

Led by students, youth activists, church groups, civil society organizations, labor unions, progressive groups, and celebrities, the demonstrators demanded accountability and denounced massive corruption in the government linked to anomalous flood-control projects. Recent hearings and investigations have revealed irregularities involving both government officials and private contractors in the awarding and implementation of these multi-billion peso infrastructure deals.

Nationwide, similar protests erupted in key cities including Cebu, Davao, Baguio, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Naga drawing thousands of participants echoing the call for systemic reforms and transparency in public spending.

The rally was marked by powerful speeches, creative protest art installations, and symbolic acts like the pouring of murky water into barrels labeled with government agencies, representing the public's outrage over billions lost to alleged flood-control scams.

The spirit of excellence and determination shone brightly as the Ignacian Marians showcased their talents during the recently held Sci-Math Competition at Eastern Visayas State University. Competing against some of the brightest young minds in the region, the Marian contenders proudly brought home impressive ranks in both Mathematics and Science categories, September 18.

In the Mathematics competition, two Marian teams represented the school with distinction. Team A, composed of Beyonce Joy Cirio, Joseph Udtujan, and Anthony Basilan, secured an admirable 8th place finish out of 28 teams. Meanwhile, Team B, with members Rhodiza Joy Hermosilla, Jeznhel Calaramo, and Christian Macabulos, earned a respectable 16th place, proving their skill and perseverance in solving challenging problems.

The Science category also brought glory to the Marian representatives. Team A, comprised of Ryza Mae Hermosilla, Vaughn Hendrich Ganata, and Moshedayan L. Hernit Jr., emerged as strong contenders by finishing 4th place, marking the schoolโ€™s highest achievement in the event. On the other hand, Team B, with participants Althea Gumapac, James Enzo Velasco, and Mathew Jacob L. Hernit, demonstrated commendable teamwork and knowledge, securing 10th place out of 22 teams.

These achievements not only highlight the studentsโ€™ dedication and hard work but also serve as a testament to the schoolโ€™s commitment to nurturing academic excellence. The Marian community extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding performance and for bringing pride and honor to the institution.
