BAYAN MUNA DISQUALIFIED IN THE 2025 MIDTERM ELECTIONS

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Saturday, announces the disqualification of the Bayan Muna Party-list for its affiliation with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA).

Bayan Muna's disqualification comes after the careful deliberation of the COMELEC EN BANC.

In a separate press release, the COMELEC emphasizes that Bayan Muna's direct support and involvement to the CPP-NPA is a clear violation of Section 6(2) of Republic Act No. 7941 and Section 68(b) of the Omnibus Election Code, which prohibits party-list and individual candidates from espousing or engaging in violence or unlawful means to achieve their goals.

The CPP-NPA has been identified as a terrorist organization by the Anti-Terrorism Council under the ATC Resolution No. 65, dated 27 December 2024.

Meanwhile, in previous elections, Bayan Muna campaign materials, together with other Makabayan Bloc party-list paraphernalia, were found in an alleged NPA camp.
