My Story as a Trailer Truck Driver
August 16, 2011 β The Beginning of a Lifelong Journey
It all started on August 16, 2011, when I was officially given the privilege to be a trailer truck driver -an opportunity granted by the Land Transportation Davao Head Office. That date is forever etched in my heart as the beginning of a lifelong journey on the road.
Like every trailer truck driver, I didnβt start behind the wheel. I began as a helper, and that meant doing everything -cooking meals, buying supplies, lifting cargo, washing dishes, cleaning the truck, and more. You name it, I did it. These werenβt just chores; they were stepping stones to gaining the trust of my driver. And trust? That was everything.
I consider myself lucky. Some drivers never allow their helpers to touch the wheel. But I had mentors who saw something in me. It was at DOLE Phils Inc. Packing Plant LAHI DOLE VALLY ZONE where I learned the most challenging part of being a truck driver -reversing a trailer truck. It took me two months of daily, sweat-drenched practice to finally understand the mechanics. I will never forget those days -my shirt soaked, my underwear dripping -but my determination never gave in.
To my mentors, Roger Pasiol Roger CaΓ±edo Pasiol and Eglicerio "Jun2x" Mejo -thank you. Your patience, your guidance, and your belief in me built the foundation of the driver I am today. I owe you more than just gratitude.
Now, trucking is more than a job -it is our lifeblood. Every mile we travel, every load we carry, keeps the economy moving. So I say this with pride and honor:
To all trailer truck drivers out there, I salute you. πͺ
We donβt just drive -we deliver life.
