From those early beginnings, Leyte has emerged as a leader in geothermal energy production, showcasing the island's abundant geothermal resources and pioneering technologies that have made it a model for renewable energy development. The exploration wells, originally drilled to assess geothermal potential, laid the foundation for iconic geothermal power plants, including the Tongonan and Malitbog Geothermal Power Plants in Ormoc City and Kananga.
