𝐑𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐀𝐘

Every 30th of December, Rizal Day is commerated to honor the life and sacrifice of our national hero, Dr. Josè Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda. This day marks his 1896 ex*****on and a solemn reminder of his unwavering nationalism and love for his country.

Dr. Jose Rizal was executed in Bagumbayan, now known as Luneta Park after being accused of treason under the Spanish colonial government. Despite these accusations, he faced his fate with courage and dignity. He is also widely known as the author of the renowned novels: Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo; literary works that exposed the injustices of Spanish rule and awakened the Filipino spirit of nationalism.

Today, we remember and honor a man who fought for our freedom that was not waged through violence, but through the power of intellect and literature. It marks as one of the most significant moments in our nation’s history—the passing of our national hero, which remains deeply remembered as Rizal Day.

𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘𝐀𝐋 | 𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐀𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐈𝐒𝐎 𝐒𝐀 𝐍𝐎𝐂𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐔𝐄𝐍𝐀

Bago ang araw ng pagsapit ng pasko, paulit-ulit nating narinig na ang limang daang piso ay sapat na upang maipagdiwang ng isang pamilyang Pilipino ang Noche Buena. Ngunit sa Pasko ng 2025, malinaw ang paglutang ng bawat katanungan: sapat para kanino? Para sa estadistika, o para sa pamilyang araw-araw nakikipagbuno sa pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin?

Ayon sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), sa pamamagitan ng pahayag ni Trade Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, maaari umanong maghanda ng isang “simpleng” Noche Buena gamit ang halagang ito. Ngunit ang salitang simple ay mabilis na naging palusot—isang salitang ginagamit upang pagtakpan ang kakulangan at gawing normal ang pagtitiis. Hindi ito repleksiyon ng realidad; ito ay malinaw na pagliit sa dinaranas ng mamamayan.

Sa mata ng iilan, ang limang daang piso ay “pwede na 'to.” Ngunit sa mas nakararami, ito ay malinaw na kulang. Kulang para sa pagkain, kulang para sa dignidad, at kulang para sa diwa ng Pasko. Ang paghimok na “dumiskarte” ay tila pagsasabing kasalanan ng mahihirap ang kanilang kahirapan, at hindi bunga ng sistemang patuloy na pumipiga sa kanila.

Naglabasan ang mga vlog, eksperimento, at pagtatangka na patunayang kakayanin ang itinakdang halaga. Ngunit sa halip na magtagumpay, karamihan ay nabigo. Sa kabiguang iyon, lumitaw ang mas masakit na katotohanan: ang pamahalaang dapat umunawa ay tila manhid na sa gutom ng sarili nitong mamamayan.

Hindi lamang ito usapin ng isang hapunan sa Pasko. Isa itong simbolo ng mas malalim na problema—ang pagkakalayo ng mga namumuno sa tunay na kalagayan ng bayan. Habang ang taumbayan ay nagbabawas ng mga pangrekado sa ulam para makatipid, may mga bulsang patuloy na lumolobo. Habang ang pamilya ay nagtitipid sa handa, ang korapsyon ay walang humpay.

Kaya ang bawat ninanais ay hindi na kung nagkasya ba ang limang daang piso. Ang mas mahalagang tanong: hanggang kailan tayo papayag na ang kakulangan ay tawaging resiliency? Hanggang kailan natin hahayaang ipagdiwang ang Pasko sa gutom, habang pinapalakpakan ang mga pahayag na walang bahid ng tunay na malasakit?

Kaya kung ikaw ang tatanungin, batay sa sarili mong karanasan nitong nagdaan na Noche Buena, nagkasya nga ba ang limang daang piso sa inyong hapag-kainan? O kulang pa ito upang mabusog hindi lamang ang tiyan, kundi pati ang puso ng bawat kasapi ng pamilya, kasama na ang mga alaga ninyong umaasang makibahagi sa saya ng Pasko?

Tonight, families gather for Noche Buena, sharing food, laughter, and meaningful moments together. Even if not all homes are filled with abundance, this special evening reminds us to pause and appreciate the year gone by, the support we received, the lessons we’ve learned, and the experiences that shaped us.

While some enjoy the comforts of home and plenty on the table, others may face challenges, yet the true spirit of the season shines in kindness, generosity, and togetherness. Noche Buena is more than a meal, it is a celebration of love, care, and the bonds that connect us all.

May this night inspire us to hold dear the memories we treasure, create new moments of joy, and step into the season with hope, love, and a generous heart.

[𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐃] The 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, in collaboration with the 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙇𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙞𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙨, successfully held an outreach program entitled
"𝐇𝐎-𝐇𝐎-𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄: 𝐏𝐚𝐠-𝐚𝐬𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐬𝐚'𝐲𝐨, 𝐋𝐨𝐥𝐨'𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐥𝐚" at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Home for the Elderly.

Through smiles, carols, and shared moments, we spent a meaningful Christmas with our beloved Lolos and Lolas, reminding them that they are truly loved and cherished this Christmas season.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors who contributed to make this outreach possible. Your support filled our elderly community with warmth, joy, and genuine smiles.

The City University of Pasay (CUP) mourns the passing of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐅𝐞 𝐄𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐚𝐧, fondly known as Ma’am Roldan.

Known as a dedicated educator, Prof. Roldan served the university with commitment and compassion, earning the respect and admiration of her students and acquaintances. Her guidance and genuine care left a lasting impact on the CUP community.

The university extends its deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Prof. Roldan’s service and legacy will continue to be remembered.

May her soul rest in peace. 🕊️

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | 𝗖𝗨𝗣 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗟 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧

Alongside the Battle of the Bands held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Pasay City Hall grounds, the awarding of winners for the Christmas Parol Contest organized by the Central Student Council (CSC) of the City University of Pasay (CUP) also took place, recognizing the participating Student Mandated Organizations (SMOs) and Student Government Organizations (SGOs).

The Most Symbolic Award was given to BSE 4-5 (Class Section), Ang Salimbay (SMO), and the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery (CONM). Meanwhile, the People’s Choice Award was awarded to BSE 1-1 Filipino, the College of Business Administration (CBA), and JFINEX (SMO). The Most Recycled Materials Award was won by BSE 1-1 Filipino, CBA Pep Squad (SMO), and CONM (SGO).

For the SMO category, Ang Salimbay emerged as the Champion, bringing home a certificate of victory and a glass award engraved with the champion title. The English Circle was named First Runner-Up, followed by CBA Pep Squad as Second Runner-Up, while JFINEX placed as Fourth Runner-Up.

Each organization participated wholeheartedly in the Parol Making Contest, embodying the true spirit of Christmas. The real victory was seen in the unity, perseverance, and camaraderie formed throughout the process of working toward a common goal. Together, let us continue to illuminate the light placed behind every handcrafted parol by the people who created them.
