Today, I found out that Skye secretly took her wallet to school.
She used her own savings to buy candies for her mom and me.
She did it in secret because she already knew what I would say. I would have told her not to spend her money on us and to save it for herself. And knowing me, I probably would have suggested that we just buy candies together at the supermarket so her money could go a little further.
But she did it anyway.
And honestly, I’m glad she did.
There was something different about receiving those candies. For years, I was the one buying little treats for her. I was the one making sure she had everything she wanted. But today, for the first time, she spent her own money because she wanted to make us smile.
It was just a simple bag of candy.
Yet somehow, it carried a meaning far greater than its price.
Moments like these make me proud because they remind me that she’s growing into a thoughtful, kind-hearted person.
At the same time, they make me a little sad.
Because while my little girl is learning to give, it also means she’s slowly growing up.
And no matter how much a father prepares for it, that part never gets easier.
