Sean “Diddy” Combs Acquitted of S*x Trafficking, Convicted on Lesser Charges in Federal Trial
NEW YORK – July 2, 2025 — Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted Wednesday of the most serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and s*x trafficking but was found guilty on two lesser counts of transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution in his high-profile federal trial in New York.
Each conviction carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, potentially placing Combs behind bars for up to two decades.
The verdict, delivered in U.S. District Court in lower Manhattan, prompted a dramatic emotional response. As the not-guilty verdicts on the major charges were read, Combs kneeled, placed his hands on his chair, and began to pray. Moments later, his family and supporters burst into applause, cheers, and whistles in the courtroom.
Despite the partial victory, Combs remains in custody. His defense team immediately requested his release, citing his clean criminal record and stable ties, including his residence in Miami. Prosecutors, however, strongly opposed the motion, arguing the gravity of the convictions warranted continued detention.
Judge Arun Subramanian ordered both sides to submit formal arguments regarding Combs’ potential release. A follow-up hearing was scheduled to resume at 1 p.m. Eastern Time to determine whether Combs would be granted bail.
The jury deliberated over the five-count indictment beginning Monday. On Tuesday, they informed the court that they had reached a consensus on four charges but remained deadlocked on the racketeering conspiracy count. Judge Subramanian directed them to continue their deliberations, which concluded Wednesday morning with full verdicts on all counts.
Combs, long a towering figure in the music industry and business world, has faced increasing legal scrutiny in recent years. While Wednesday’s outcome spared him the most serious accusations, the convictions still mark a significant legal setback for the embattled mogul. Sentencing is expected in the coming months.
