My 1st duathlon gave me a lot of mixed emotions! It was my MOST PAINFUL RACE, but I’m so happy to have finished it. AND most importantly, it taught me a lot as a beginner endurance athlete 😮💨🫠
It’s been only a few months since I started seriously working on my goal to become an Ironman. I didn’t realize how much I was pushing my body UNTIL this race. Just 2 weeks before, I finished my 1st ever half marathon. I started feeling pain in my heels. I wasn’t sure what it was and I thought was just going to go away after a few days, I didn’t do anything about them. But as race day got closer, the pain wasn’t going away, and I started to worry. I later learned it was plantar fasciitis 🦶🥲
I’ve never dealt with an injury or flare up like this before, so I didn’t really know how to handle it. I decided to push through with the race, thinking I could still finish. But in the days leading up to it, the pain kept getting worse. The day before, it already hurt just to walk, so I was very anxious 🙃
From the moment I started warming up, I knew that this was going to be a hard race. The pain in both my heels during the entire race was INSANE… I’ve never felt anything like it. I was really determined to finish, and I’m so grateful I did.
This race taught me to take it easier on my body, so this doesn’t become a recurring issue as I continue working toward my big goal of one day becoming an Ironman 🎯
For now, chill muna ako sa runs huhu 😅 I also started working with coach Vanessa Agdon 🦋 to properly increase my training load para iwas injury and issues for my next races 🤓
Pero at least, we’re now OFFICIALLY A DUATHLETE!!! 🤪🌟
