A church visitor asked the pastor, “Can I request prayer?”
“Sure, what do you want prayer for?” the pastor replied.
“My cousin died last week. Pray that God will guide him in the afterlife.”
The pastor paused and then asked, “Suppose you're taking an exam. Should you pray before the exam or after?”
“Obviously, before the exam,” the visitor answered.
“Right,” the pastor said. “When you pray after the exam, it’s like asking God to change the grades. That’s not possible because God is faithful and just; He cannot change the results. Similarly, when we die, the exam is over. We can no longer change our destiny.
Hebrews 9:27 says, 'It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.' This means there is no second chance. I’m sorry for your relative, but he can no longer be prayed for. That is why it is so important to understand the Gospel and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior while we are still alive.”
Sinners who believe they can be saved after death will face the greatest shock of their lives. Teach the truth, because it is the only thing that can set people free (John 8:32).
