A son lost his mother and built a business to help other mothers survive.
We filmed them working — hands moving, heads down, stitching leather. No script. No performance. Just people trying to survive with some dignity intact.
That became a finalist for the KBP Golden Dove Awards - Best Radio Magazine Program.
I was then a newbie in broadcasting who showed up every Sunday for three years.
We Mean Business was a one-woman show where I was the writer, researcher, anchor and executive producer.
Being a newbie reminded me of a similar incident during my corporate years...
Our CEA called me in.
"May, I'm appointing you as Vice President for Logistics."
I had no background in logistics. Wrong department entirely. So I asked him straight: why me?
He said that the department was bleeding and needed my help.
He assured me, "I've seen how you work. Just be yourself."
No roadmap. No guarantee. I didn't even fully understand the scope.
So I did what I always do. I got in, looked at what was broken, and fixed it. Simplified what didn't need to be complicated.
Automated some processes. Cut what was costing us money we didn't need to spend.
Millions saved. I was the first executive in the company to receive a Departmental Award.
I did it twice, in two completely different roles - a newbie who was recognized for exemplary work.

UMs — if you're overwhelmed right now, that's not a warning sign. That's just what growing feels like from the inside.
Two principles I carry in everything I do:
HINDI PWEDE ANG HINDI PWEDE.
"It's not possible" is not an answer. Find the way.
HINDI PWEDE ANG PWEDE NA.
"Good enough" is not acceptable.
You don't need perfect conditions. You need standards you actually hold yourself to.
