‼️ THE WEEKEND WORD
You Give Them Something
"He replied, "You give them something to eat." (Luke 9:13 NIV)
Talk about pressure. At least 5,000 people are surrounding you and they are hungry. When you ask the boss what to do, He looks at you and says, “You give them something to eat.” Like He’s saying you personally are to provide for them. I would probably protest a little too: I can’t afford to buy food for all these people. The amount we have isn’t enough. What do you expect me to do?
We can look at a lost world full of hurting people and have a similar crisis moment. The Great Commission calls us to go and provide spiritual food to all these souls, but can we really feed so many?
The answers are found in this passage. First, Jesus directs the disciples to give them something to eat. This takes the pressure off because Jesus never expected them to fully satisfy the crowd by themselves. Second, they used what they had. Too often we focus on what we don’t have instead of what’s already in our hands. Five loaves and two fish was not much, but it’s something! You may not have enough resources to meet every need, but you do have something to offer.
Finally, it’s never our job to satisfy someone’s spiritual hunger. We can’t do it, even with unlimited resources. Jesus alone satisfies, but He does so when we willingly offer what we have. Though small, He can multiply it and reveal Himself through it.
As we minister this week, let’s not be distracted by what we lack. Let’s faithfully offer what we have and trust Jesus to do what only He can—take our little and make it more than enough. - Keith Garner
