Something we hear from almost every student we coach: "Should I use more idioms so I sound more fluent?"
Here at Anytime English, we always gently push back, because in an interview, that instinct can work against you.
An idiom only works if the person listening shares your context. In an interview, they often don't, especially if English isn't their first language either, or they're on their sixth call of the day. So when you say "we put out fires all week," they have to pause and translate you.
Swipe through the slides for a real example of how that swap works in practice.
The candidates who leave the strongest impression usually aren't the ones with the most colorful vocabulary. They're the ones whose answers land clearly, the first time. And to be clear, this isn't about making your English smaller. It's about making sure your hard-earned skills are what gets remembered.
We'd genuinely love to know: what's the idiom you catch yourself using most at work?
