The day concludes with a daily dismissal, a moment that reinforces the discipline and order that Mandaragats carry with them—both on campus and in their future maritime careers. D/C John Paul Arellano, a dedicated and promising cadet of Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS), has embarked on his international shipboard training under Epsilon Maritime Services. Having completed his academic requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation on July 20, 2024, as a member of Batch Alab-Masinag, has now taken the next significant step in his maritime career.

On September 5, 2024, D/C John Paul Arellano joined his international shipboard training, marking the beginning of a new chapter where he will apply the knowledge and skills acquired during his time at IMMS. His training with KJCM Navios under Epsilon Maritime Services will provide him with valuable real-world experience aboard an international vessel, navigating through diverse routes and facing the challenges of life at sea. This hands-on exposure is vital in molding a competent and versatile mariner ready to face the evolving demands of the maritime industry.

The rigorous training program will allow D/C John Paul Arellano to build on his competencies, develop leadership qualities, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the industry’s complexities. His dedication and passion for the maritime profession exemplify the spirit of Batch Alab-Masinag, and his journey resonates with IMMS's mission of fulfilling maritime dreams.

John Paul expresses his profound gratitude towards IMMS: “I am deeply grateful to IMMS for the invaluable knowledge, mentorship, and experiences I have gained during my time there. This institution has not only expanded my academic horizons but has also shaped me into a more critical thinker, problem solver, and leader in my field. The challenges I've faced and the opportunities I've embraced have prepared me for the path ahead, and I will carry the lessons learned here throughout my professional journey.”

He continues to reflect on the essence of his journey with inspiring words: “As future mariners, we carry the spirit of exploration and responsibility. The sea teaches us discipline, resilience, and adaptability—qualities that will shape us into not just capable sailors, but leaders in every sense. Every challenge we face on this journey is a lesson that prepares us for the vastness of the oceans and the unpredictability of life itself. John Paul also holds firm to a motivational belief: “Let us break the norm, makakasampa tayo kahit walang 'backer'. In God we trust!”

Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS) upholds a long-standing tradition of beginning and ending each day with mustering and formal dismissal—a practice that instills discipline and fosters a dignified manner among students as they exit the institution’s premises.

Mustering is a daily routine followed by every student. During this process, the number of students is counted, uniforms are inspected for compliance with the school's standards, and nails and haircuts are checked to ensure they meet the required appearance. Each student at IMMS is required to adhere to this routine.

The Corps of Midshipmen (COM), the highest student governing body at IMMS, manages the mustering and dismissal operations daily. This routine has been consistently observed over the years and has become an integral part of student life.

For every Mandaragat, this daily dismissal serves as a reminder of the values of discipline and professionalism that IMMS instills in its cadets—truly, a distinctive way to close the day.

On May 1, 2023, Deck Cadet Henry Magno Cleofas II embarked on an extraordinary journey with GTEXPRESS SHIPPING CORPORATION, marking a pivotal chapter in his maritime career. This moment is more than just a milestone; it is a testament to his relentless pursuit of his dreams and the enduring spirit of the Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS), where his journey began.

From his earliest day at Iloilo Merchant Marine School, D/C Cleofas embraced the rigors of maritime education, drawn to the ocean's vastness and the call of the seafaring life. At IMMS, he found more than just a school; he found a launchpad for his aspirations—a place that fueled his desire to conquer the seas. While his education laid a strong theoretical foundation, it is the hands-on experiences aboard the vessel that have truly shaped his journey, adding depth to his learning and character. “My time as a deck cadet has been transformative," D/C Cleofas reflects. "Working at mooring stations and maintaining deck equipment taught me the importance of attention to detail and teamwork. Ensuring everything operates smoothly is essential for safety and efficiency."

But D/C Cleofas' training is not confined to the physical tasks of a seafarer; it also encompasses the art and science of navigation. Engaging in chart planning and route strategizing under the guidance of seasoned officers, he learns the complexities of maritime navigation. This hands-on mentorship is not only honing his technical skills but also instilling in him the confidence to lead as a future maritime professional.

Beyond his personal achievements, D/C Cleofas carries a heartfelt message for aspiring seafarers. “To all aspiring seafarers, never let go of your dreams. The sea will test you, but it is in those tests that you find your true strength,” he advises. He acknowledges that setbacks are part of the process, yet he encourages others to remain steadfast. “Always keep moving forward. Your dreams are worth the effort,” he emphasizes.

𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 || The Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS) held a significant event to formally welcome the newest members of its Media Team, who successfully passed a rigorous screening process. These students demonstrated exceptional skills and a strong commitment to the school's media initiatives.

The event commenced with an inspiring address from Mrs. Rose Cherry G. Moncerate, School President, who highlighted the crucial role of the media team in upholding the institution’s values and enhancing its visibility through various social media channels. She emphasized the importance of integrity, responsibility, and creativity in the tasks that lie ahead, congratulating the students on their achievement and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.

Following this, the new and existing members participated in the Oath of Office, where they pledged to uphold the principles of truth, creativity, and dedication in their work. They committed to using their skills to represent the school in the best possible light, ensuring that all communications and media outputs reflect the elevated standards of the Iloilo Merchant Marine School.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by the IMMS Media Team members and Mrs. Rose Cherry G. Moncerate, School President, with Mr. Robert Aguilar, Jr., Consultant to the Chairman of the Board, serving as a witness. This signing symbolized the formal agreement between the media team and the school administration, underscoring the importance of this commitment.

Austin John Magoliman, Social Media Manager, of the IMMS Media Team also delivered a heartfelt response, expressing gratitude for the trust bestowed upon the team and reaffirming their commitment to uphold the values of the institution.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo session. The newly inducted members expressed their excitement about contributing to the school’s media projects, from managing social media platforms to covering school events and creating content that resonates with both students and the wider community.

The event was a huge success, not only marking the beginning of a new chapter for these talented individuals but also reinforcing the Iloilo Merchant Marine School’s commitment to nurturing and showcasing the talents of its students.
