The connection between El Divino Rostro and Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia became especially significant during the 1882 cholera epidemic in Nueva Cรกceres.

Fr. Pedro de la Torre requested that the Divino Rostro be enshrined at the Cathedral so people could pray for protection. Bishop Casimiro Herrera also ordered that the intercession of Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia be sought.

On August 26, 1882, the image of Ina was brought to the Cathedral.

According to the Archdiocese of Cรกceres, this was the first time the two images were together in one place.

When the epidemic had passed, the hierarchy and the people promised to celebrate the feasts of El Divino Rostro and Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia together.

That historic connection continues in today's Peรฑafrancia celebrations.

5TH MANTO EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS MARIAN DEVOTION IN CACERESโ€™ 75TH DIAMOND JUBILEE

The 5th Manto Exhibit is now on display at Robinsons Naga, showcasing the rich expressions of Marian devotion across the local Church as part of the 75th Diamond Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Cรกceres under the patronage of Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia.

The exhibit highlights the Manto of Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia as a living symbol of maternal protection, healing, and the enduring faith of the Bicolano people.

Reflecting on the meaning of devotion to Inรข, Archbishop Emeritus Rolando Tirona emphasized that it should lead the faithful to โ€œgrow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ,โ€ bearing fruits of inner strength, peace, providence, and joy in giving.

The exhibit will remain open at Robinsons Naga until September 8, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The devotion to El Divino Rostro in Naga has roots in Osa de la Vega, Spain.

In 1882, Rev. Fr. Pedro de la Torre, then Vicar General of the Diocese of Nueva Cรกceres and a native of Osa de la Vega, had with him a copy of the Divino Rostro that was venerated in his hometown.

When cholera threatened Nueva Cรกceres that year, Fr. Pedro requested that the holy image be enshrined at the Cathedral so the people could come and pray before it.

This became the beginning of the organized devotion to El Divino Rostro in Naga.

From a Spanish town to Nueva Cรกceres, the devotion would eventually become an enduring part of the Peรฑafrancia tradition.

IMAGE OF THE DIVINO ROSTRO TO BE TRANSFERRED TO THE OLD PEร‘AFRANCIA SHRINE TOMORROW.

The Image of the Divino Rostro will be transferred to the Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia Parish (Old Shrine) on September 1 as part of the preparations for the Peรฑafrancia Fiesta 2026.

The activities will begin with the 5:15 PM Cรกceres Clergy Mass at the Peรฑafrancia Basilica. After the Mass, a procession of the Image of El Divino Rostro will take place.

Upon arrival at the Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia Parish (Old Shrine), the faithful will join the reception of El Divino Rostro, followed by the Novena.
