October 12, 2025
The universal Church celebrates a historic milestone on October 12, 2025 โ the first official feast day of St. Carlo Acutis, the young Italian computer enthusiast whose love for the Eucharist and use of technology for evangelization have inspired millions around the world.
Just a month prior, on September 7, 2025, Pope Leo XIV canonized Carlo Acutis alongside St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, officially declaring him a saint of the Catholic Church. His canonization made him the first millennial saint, marking a new chapter in the Churchโs history โ one that embraces holiness in the digital age.
A Life of Faith in the Modern World
Born on May 3, 1991, in London and raised in Milan, Italy, Carlo Acutis grew up like many young people of his generation. He loved playing video games, programming computers, and exploring the internet. Yet, behind his ordinary interests was an extraordinary soul deeply in love with Jesus Christ, especially in the Holy Eucharist.
From a young age, Carlo attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary faithfully, and spent hours in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. His motto, โThe Eucharist is my highway to heaven,โ reflected the center of his spiritual life.
Carlo also used his digital talents to create a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles from around the world โ a project that continues to inspire devotion among the faithful today.
His โBirthday to Heavenโ
St. Carlo died of leukemia on October 12, 2006, at only 15 years old. The Church traditionally celebrates a saintโs feast on the day of their death โ known as their โheavenly birthday.โ Thus, October 12 was chosen as the date of his memorial in the liturgical calendar.
Patron of the Digital Apostolate
Known as the โCyber Apostle of the Eucharist,โ St. Carlo Acutis stands as a role model for todayโs youth, proving that sanctity is possible even in the midst of social media, online culture, and modern distractions. He reminds us that technology, when used for good, can become a powerful tool for spreading the Gospel.
A Feast for the World
The first celebration of his feast day this October 12 will be observed in dioceses across the world โ from his resting place in Assisi, Italy, where his incorrupt body lies in a glass tomb, to local parishes and youth ministries inspired by his witness. Many communities will hold Eucharistic Adoration, youth gatherings, and online prayer events in his honor.
A Model for Every Young Christian
St. Carlo Acutisโs life was short, but his legacy continues to bear fruit. His message is clear: holiness is not reserved for priests, nuns, or ancient saints โ it is possible for everyone, even for those who live in the digital world.
โTo always be close to Jesus, thatโs my life plan,โ Carlo once said. His feast day calls us to do the same โ to draw near to Christ, especially in the Eucharist, and to use every modern means to proclaim His love.
