“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity." — Martin Luther King Jr.

Labor Day stands as a testament to the countless individuals who nurture our society with their effort and courage. Beneath each drop of sweat lie woven from both hardship and hope. Even after long hours of working, and steadfast work moves forward at a painstaking pace, these people remain dedicated and strive to create better life for themselves, their families, and the nation's economy.

‎Moreover, these hardworking men and women stand as pillars of the country’s economic growth. They pour their strength into society’s success, filling it to the brim with their tireless contributions. Labor Day represents a fight for workers’ rights — for improved working conditions and greater equity. It is a time to honor not only their achievements and the fruits of their labor, but also the sacrifices, trials, courage, battles fought, and lasting contributions they have made.

‎Furthermore, this occasion has blossomed into a radiant symbol of hope. It casts its warm glow upon the paths we walk through life. Most importantly, it reminds us always of the profound hardships that have sculpted their journey and polished their resolve into purest gold.

Today marks another moment that lives through those around someone capable. The Editor-in-Chief that formed into someone whose words are meaningfully chosen and whose actions carry deep reflection and clearer mind. Her responsibility is no longer just making flowery narratives, it is about shaping the way people see things, building confidence, and creating material worth its take.

Leading is not about getting the credit but about meeting every challenge with grace and determination. She always finds the strength within to turn the tide in her favor and use the given deadline as a source of motivation. Because of her guidance and professionalism, this publication can be called a true reflection of the voices that are being heard there. Each words bring not only her words but the results of her leadership.

Today, her birthday, her accomplishments become even more accurate since every new story is like the continuation of one big story. No matter where she goes next, the dream, mission, and wisdom will never leave her side because the path ahead her is full of stories waiting to be recognized. Therefore, happy birthday to the one and only, Gaea Athena A. Ojeda!

Day of Valor: Honoring the Courage and Sacrifices of our Heroes

‎Every April 9, the Philippines celebrates Araw ng Kagitingan, or Day of Valor, a national holiday dedicated to the heroes of World War II. Also known historically as Bataan Day or Bataan and Corregidor Day, the occasion commemorates the fall of Bataan to Japanese forces in 1942. It stands as a reminder of honoring the heroism, sacrifices, and courage made by Filipino and American soldiers during World War II.

‎After months of fierce fighting, more than 76,000 Filipino and American soldiers surrendered to Japanese forces in Bataan. This led to the tragic Bataan Death March, walking nearly 140 kilometers to prison camps. Thousands perished along the way from hunger, disease, and extreme exhaustion. Their bravery was not in vain. It successfully delayed the enemy advance and gave Allied forces time to reorganize.

‎Araw ng Kagitingan serves as a lasting tribute to those who gave their lives in defense of the country. It reminds us that freedom was earned through great sacrifice and unyielding courage. The observance, held since 1961, strengthens the national spirit and preserves the memory of those who served.

‎The significance of Bataan is honored not only in the Philippines but also celebrated internationally, particularly in Maywood, Illinois, where the tradition lives on. Although the date is sometimes adjusted to avoid Holy Week, the meaning of the celebration never changes. It is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate heroism, and carry forward the values of courage and patriotism.

We Are Nearing the Peak

We are nearing the peak—and no, not the kind that signifies triumph. This is the cold, unforgiving altitude of a mountain where the air thins and every step is a step closer to suffocation. We are all forced to climb, not by choice but by necessity, chasing prices that continue to skyrocket while our footing grows weaker. How much longer until we run out of oxygen? How much longer can citizens keep up?

This is a mountain where every peso counts; figuratively and literally. Minimum wage workers are forced to account for each coin they earn, struggling to keep pace with the rising costs of fuel, food, groceries, kerosene, and transportation. Yet wages remain stagnant. In short, commuters protest against fare increases, while drivers struggle to earn enough to survive. Neither side is the enemy; what binds them is the same chains: a system where prices rise faster and much higher than incomes, forcing both to face challenges they cannot triumph over.

Recent reports indicate that some jeepney drivers now earn as little as 200 to 300 pesos a day—barely enough to cover basic needs, let alone sustain a family. In response, the Manila LGU has proposed a program offering 3,000 pesos per day to 1,400 selected drivers in exchange for providing free rides. While this may provide temporary relief, it raises more questions than it answers. What happens to the drivers who are excluded? What of the workers whose wages remain unchanged? Temporary subsidies cannot compensate for a structure that consistently leaves people behind—a structure that may very well be permanent.

This crisis does not affect drivers alone—it affects everyone. Every Filipino is on this mountain together. Some stand higher, breathing easier, but many are already gasping, struggling to take the next step. The issue is no longer how high prices will rise, but how long people can endure being left behind by them. A society where people work harder each day only to fall further behind is not only a dying, failing system, it is also unjust.

If this continues—if rising costs are met with stagnant wages and short-term fixes—then the outcome is inevitable; the distance between those who can keep climbing and those who cannot will only widen. And by the time we choose to act, we may find that too many have already been left behind on the slope, with no strength left to follow.

As the standard of speaking up quietly silenced many voices, those who remained steadfast now share a collective victory. Their voices echo not only in loud declarations, but also in the quiet strength they carried beyond the finish line.

As they took steps forward, the senior campus journalists of The Hyperlink left a mark defined by consistency, eagerness, and truthful impact. Years have passed, yet their advocacy remains clear—to serve, to speak, and to stand with factual voices. What they once called a “start” has now led them to what they define as success.

At the forefront of leadership stands Gaea Ojeda, an inspiring and promising Editor-in-Chief. More than a well-rounded campus journalist, she empowers the youth and society with unwavering dedication. Her journey, much like her curly hair, reflects a path that may curve yet remains directed toward a steady goal. Within her lies both uncertainty and a firm vision for the future. The Hyperlink looks forward to seeing her continue to strive and lead with even greater passion.

Alongside her is Angel Tanaotanao, the associate editor whose artistry breathes life into every piece she creates. She is not defined by her pencil—rather, she defines it. Known for her caricatures and masterpieces, Angel transforms simple drawings into expressions of depth and meaning. Truly, she lives as an artwork of her own making.

Bound together in purpose are the Largo twins, Camille, the managing editor and at the same time the science and technology editor with Kathleen as the news editor — two individuals, two journeys, yet one shared commitment to truth. They did not simply write; they excelled. With traits of grace, intelligence, and kindness, they embody the ethical core of journalism: integrity. Individually strong, yet even more powerful together, they represent the beauty of collaboration. May they continue to grow into extraordinary journalists.

Meanwhile, Aleza Tormez stands as a witness to both victory and defeat in the field of sports writing. Once encouraged by Ma’am Ella, she now demonstrates eagerness that goes beyond expectations. Through her writing, she presents not just scores, but realities. In sports, success is not defined by winners and losers alone—it is shaped by lessons and diversity. With her pen as her instrument, she continues to compete, learn, and grow.

With words as his weapon, Charls Etorne emerges as a bold and thoughtful opinion writer. His pieces are not only expressive but grounded in truth. Like a living dictionary of ideas, he crafts insights that resonate with clarity and purpose. In standing firm with his beliefs, he speaks not only of reality but also of progress toward his own success.

Alongside him is Kian Casimero, his partner in editorial writing, who exemplifies how practice and confidence reveal true potential. With dedication and commitment, Kian generates ideas that fuel meaningful discourse. His steady pursuit of growth reflects a passion that guides him toward a credible and promising future.

In pursuit of precision, Jarozel Jamorol writes not for perfection, but for accuracy. Her headlines speak not only to the mind but also to the heart. She understands that while perfection may fade, accuracy endures. With credibility as her foundation, she continues to write, refine, and grow through every correction she embraces.

In a blend of colors and creativity, Lenard Lambino and Ruby Bañaria bring the newspaper to life. Through their artistic vision, each page and publication materials become a masterpiece. Like colors in harmony, they represent individuality within unity. They do not let art define them—instead, they shape it. And in doing so, they continue to create meaning through every design.

Through every captured moment, Zaileen Fabricante tells stories behind the lens. Her photographs go beyond images; they convey meaning through angle, light, and context. Though she works behind the camera, her impact remains visible. As she continues to document the world, may she also step forward to tell her own story—because even the one behind the lens deserves to be seen.

Rae Gragas, Mariah Berona, and Gerwin Barquilla stand as the voices of the people as one of the pioneers of The Hyperpoint Express. Committed to truth, they uphold their advocacy of serving as a reliable source of information across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. With their warmth and sincerity, their voices resonate far and wide. May they continue to amplify not only the stories of others, but their own as well.

Rhynz Villanueva and Arianne Palacay may not disclose their voices but they lead the groundwork for radio broadcast, embodying contrast and unity. One is known for a light and cheerful presence, the other one is fierce and serious. Although they show opposite characteristics, they are also one in terms of goal. Two person, different traits, and one dream—to lead with technical truth.

To all of them, a new chapter has come to an end. But this marks as their new beginning. Remain focused with each other's advocacy: to lead and speak up for the voiceless. The Hyperlink says: Padayon, Senior Campus Journalists!

Happy birthday to The Hyperlink’s very own copyreader, Ma. Jarozel Pauline—better known as Maja! She may seem quiet, prim, and proper at first, but once you get to know her better, a humorous and surprisingly loud personality begins to show. Behind her shy smile is someone who can easily bring laughter and fun to those around her. With her keen eye for detail and her talent for catching every misplaced word, she keeps our stories polished and publication-ready. Here’s to Maja, the one who makes sure every sentence is in its best form. Wishing her a year filled with joy, laughter, and moments that deserve no corrections at all.

At first glance, Ma’am Estepany Purisima may appear strict, the kind of teacher who values discipline and focus in the classroom. But beyond that firm presence is a genuinely kind and thoughtful mentor who deeply cares for her students and their learning. As a Filipino teacher, she guides us through the richness of our language and literature—from the powerful pages of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo to the deeper meanings behind every story and verse.

Through her lessons, we are reminded that Filipino is not just a subject, but a reflection of our history, identity, and voice. Today, we celebrate her birthday and wish Ma’am Estepany Purisima continued strength, happiness, and more inspiring moments in the classroom.

The 40th Anniversary of People Power: Have We Learned Anything?

They stood in front of tanks armed with nothing but prayers and courage. Forty years later, the question isn’t what happened in 1986—the question is what happened to us.

This issue has sparked controversy across the country, because of the brave and selfless heroes that fought for their rights and for the future. But yet, forty years later—politics seemed to be unfazed. This isn't just about the suspension of classes, but how much disrespect the people who fought and lost their lives just to live freely. The day that was supposed to honor the heroes who fought, became just another normal Wednesday for others.

Real power lives in the hearts of the people. The Filipinos hold the power in choosing their leaders and in shaping the future of their nation.

Today, February 25, honors the historic People Power Revolution as a reminder that democracy was never restored by force but by solidarity. This significant uprising is the revolution of courage, faith, and unity of the Filipino citizens.

This historical event is a testament that leaders exist to serve the people and that their power is borrowed from the people. The nonviolent revolution reminded the leaders when they forgot who they serve.
