Inside your arteries, a hidden process called atherosclerosis could be quietly threatening your heart. It begins when the delicate inner lining of your arteries, known as the endothelium, becomes damaged, often from high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, or chronic inflammation. Once weakened, “bad” LDL cholesterol slips through the cracks, setting off an immune response that backfires.
Your body tries to clean up the mess by sending white blood cells, but instead of healing, they mix with cholesterol and cellular debris to form fatty streaks. Over time, these grow into hardened plaques that narrow your arteries and choke off blood flow. The result is increased pressure on the heart and a much higher risk of heart attack or stroke.
Diet, stress, and lack of exercise make the problem worse, while genetics can add fuel to the fire. The good news is that plaque buildup can be slowed or even prevented through lifestyle changes, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking, and eating nutrient-rich foods.
Your arteries tell the story of your lifestyle. Keep them clear, and you keep your heart alive.
Protect your heart before it’s too late.
