‎NEWS | Mental Health Week

‎November 24, 2025, Mental Health Week Symposium held at General Santos Academy Inc. Covered Court, gathering all students, teachers and staff. And with the presence of Ma'am Jossa Mae Memoza, RN as a guest speaker.

‎With the theme, "Thrive Within: Cultivating a Positive Attitude and Emotional Wellness," highlights that emotional well-being comes from daily actions. By being positive, taking care of ourselves, being present, and connecting with others, we can manage life’s difficulties. Focusing on our inner selves helps us thrive, showing that emotional health is a personal journey that begins inside.

‎Mental Health Week Symposium is important to Every GSOI and GSAI

‎It offers many benefits, like raising awareness, teaching stress management skills, and creating a supportive environment. It helps people find resources and know how to cope. However, some might find it too simplistic or boring. It can also increase anxiety if support isn't ongoing, and sharing personal feelings can be uncomfortable. Despite this, the symposium can greatly help our mental well-being.

“A leader’s vision becomes a school’s direction.”

General Santo's Academy gathered students, teachers, and staffs for the celebration of GSA President's Day 2025. It is a celebration of leadership, community, and gratitude. This year’s theme, “𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 " guided every part of the program, showing how one person’s dedication can shape the school’s journey.

The event began with a Holy Mass that encouraged reflection and thanksgiving, followed by performances, messages, and creative presentations from various student clubs. Each segment of the program highlighted appreciation for the president’s guidance and the values that continue to inspire the school's community.

The celebration reminded everyone that leadership is more than a title—it is service, vision, and care that help the school thrive.

‎“A time for remembrance, love, and family.”

‎Every year on November 1 and 2, Filipinos come together to celebrate Undas. It is one of the most meaningful traditions in the Philippines, where families honor and remember their departed loved ones.

‎During Undas, people visit cemeteries to clean and decorate graves with flowers, candles, and prayers. Some families bring food and stay for hours, sharing stories and memories of those who have passed away. The atmosphere is both solemn and joyful, a mix of grief, love, and reunion.

‎Undas is not just about remembering the dead, but also about strengthening family bonds. It reminds us to value the people we still have with us and to live our lives with kindness and faith. Even as years pass, the memories of our loved ones continue to guide and inspire us.

‎In the end, Undas teaches us that love never dies. It simply lives on in our hearts and in the light of every candle we offer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Shining a Light on Hope and Resilience

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, its impact on individuals and families, and the importance of early detection and treatment. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide, with millions of cases diagnosed each year. Throughout the month, communities, organizations, and individuals come together to show support for those affected by breast cancer, promote education and awareness, and advocate for research and funding. By wearing pink ribbons, participating in fundraising events, and sharing personal stories, we can help shine a light on hope and resilience in the face of this disease. Early detection and treatment can significantly improve survival rates, making it crucial for women to prioritize their breast health and get regular screenings. Together, let's work towards a future where breast cancer is no longer a life-threatening diagnosis.

WORLD SENSORY MONTH: Sensory Diversity

What is Sensory sensitivities and Sensory Integration?

Sensory sensitivities and sensory integration describe how individuals process and respond to sensory information from their surroundings. Sensory sensitivities occur when someone is either overly sensitive or under-sensitive to input such as light, sound, touch, or taste. Over-sensitivity may cause discomfort or distress from bright lights, loud noises, or certain textures, while under-sensitivity leads to seeking stronger sensations like pressure, movement, or intense flavors.

On the other hand, Sensory integration is the brain’s ability to organize and interpret sensory signals accurately to guide appropriate responses. When this process is disrupted, it can affect focus, coordination, and emotional control. These sensory processing differences are common among individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), influencing how they perceive and interact with the world.

By understanding and accommodating sensory needs, we can create more inclusive and supportive communities. We can make a difference by educating ourselves and others about sensory processing, advocating for sensory-friendly environments, and collaborating to meet diverse needs. Simple actions like providing quiet spaces, noise-canceling headphones, soft lighting, and fidget toys can go a long was.

NEWS | KAPIT BISIG BAGONG POLOMOLOK TO MEDELLIN

LOCAL —— Polomolok Mayor Bernie D. Palencia led a 16-hour mission from South Cotabato to Medellin, Cebu to deliver food assistance to 2,900 households affected by the recent earthquake. The relief effort, organized by Team Bagong Polomolok, provided essential food packs to residents from two barangays severely hit by the quake.

According to Mayor Palencia’s statement posted online, the team’s mission was driven by a shared goal of solidarity and public service. Volunteers from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Municipal Health Office (MHO), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), and the Mayor’s Office joined the relief operation. Members of the 20th Sangguniang Bayan also participated, contributing resources and manpower to ensure the successful distribution of aid.

The mayor expressed gratitude to all donors and volunteers who made the relief mission possible, emphasizing that the trip was worth the long travel time. After completing the distribution in Medellin, the team paused briefly to rest and plan for the next wave of relief operations—this time directed toward Manay, Davao Oriental, another area heavily affected by the October earthquakes.

Mayor Palencia described the mission as “fulfilled and satisfied,” noting that the spirit of cooperation among government workers and volunteers remains strong despite the logistical challenges.

At the same time, the province of Cebu continues to recover from the October earthquake that affected northern parts of the island, including Medellin.

NEWS | DOUBLET HIT DAVAO

LOCAL —— Davao Oriental was rocked by a powerful series of earthquakes on October 10, 2025, leaving widespread devastation across the region. According to PHIVOLCS and reports from GMA Network, SunStar Publishing Inc., and the Philippine News Agency, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck offshore near Manay, Davao Oriental at 9:43 a.m., followed by a magnitude 6.8 tremor at 7:12 p.m. the same day. Experts identified these as a doublet earthquake—two strong quakes occurring close in location and time but caused by separate fault movements. Their shallow depths, ranging between 10 and 23 kilometers, intensified ground shaking across Davao Region and neighboring provinces.

The earthquakes triggered panic, power outages, and significant infrastructure damage. PHIVOLCS recorded more than 1,100 aftershocks between October 12 and 14, with magnitudes ranging from 1.2 to 5.8. As of mid-October, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed at least eight fatalities and over 380 injured. Reports from Asia News Network and Philstar estimate that more than 200,000 families—or roughly 491,000 individuals—were affected throughout Davao Oriental and Caraga Region.

Damage assessments revealed that over 2,500 houses were destroyed or partially damaged, along with barangay halls, schools, and roads. Landslides were reported in upland communities, and several coastal towns suffered structural collapse due to the intense shaking. Economic losses were pegged at over ₱100 million, based on figures from Asia News Network.

A tsunami advisory was immediately issued for the eastern seaboard, prompting coastal residents to evacuate to higher ground. Classes and government work in affected areas were suspended to allow for inspections and relief operations.

Authorities urged residents to stay away from damaged structures as aftershocks continue to rattle the province. On October 14, another magnitude 5.6 quake, followed by a 5.2 aftershock, struck near Manay, further alarming residents.

According to SunStar and GMA Network, the tremors originated from the Philippine Trench, one of the country’s most active fault systems. Experts emphasize the need for structural inspections, stricter building codes, and ongoing disaster preparedness programs.
