Bilingual Bible Joshua 1:16
And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.
At sila'y sumagot kay Josue, na sinasabi, Lahat ng iyong iniutos sa amin ay aming gagawin, at saan mo man kami suguin ay paroroon kami.

Bilingual Bible Psalms 109:13
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Mahiwalay nawa ang kaniyang kaapuapuhan; sa lahing darating ay mapawi ang kaniyang pangalan.

Sometimes, when we face times of trouble, we may get spiritual amnesia and forget the grace of God. But a good way of re-establishing a thankful heart is to set aside undistracted time and deliberately remember God's past provisions for us and give thanks. The psalmist challenges us: "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever (Ps. 118:1). The word mercy means "steadfast love". It refers to God's faithfulness. He has promised to be present always to care for His children.

When the children of Israel found themselves in a barren, hot desert, they developed memory loss about the grace of God. They began to wish they were back in Egypt enjoying all its foods (Ex. 16:2-3), and later they complained about their water supply (17.2). They had forgotten the mighty acts of God in their deliverance and how He had showered them with wealth (12:36). They were dwelling on their current circumstances and forgetting God's gracious past provision.

By remembering specific ways God has provided for us in the past, we can change our perspective for the better. God's steadfast love endures forever! Remembering God's provision for yesterday gives hope and strength for today. There's no need for worry, no need to fear, because He is our God who is always near.

Dear God, the heavens are telling of Your glory and the wonders of Your love. Yet, as clouds will cover your sky in gloom, as the ceilings of men's buildings hide the sky from my sight, so the cares of this existence block your majesty from my mind. You are our peace and to You we ascribe glory.

Grant peace to Your servants. Implant in them the fear of You and confirm in them love one for another. Extinguish every dispute and banish all temptations to disagreement.

I pray for Your peace and Your mercy in the midst of the great suffering that people are now inflicting on each other. I look with hope to the day when my knowledge of Your glory will never be hidden by the concerns of the world. Hear us and have mercy on us.

Christianity is a religion of love. But what exactly is love? First John 3:16-18 provides an answer. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

In these three verses, we see the model, definition, application, and test of true love. The model of true love is Jesus Christ. More specifically, the model of true love is Jesus Christ crucified. This model of true love leads directly to its definition. Love is self-sacrifice. Self-sacrifice, the act of laying down our lives for others, can be understood literally. Certainly Jesus understood it literally with regard to his own life. But self-sacrifice can also be understood metaphorically, as a mindset that places the interests of others before one’s own. John shows the application of true love in terms of our use of wealth. “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?” Charity toward the poor is not the only application of self-sacrificial love, but it is an especially clear one. And, the test of true love is whether we are actually self-sacrificial. If we don’t show charity to the poor (and to others), John asks, “how can the love of God be in [us]?” The love of God may refer to God’s love, or it may refer to our love for God. If we fail to love the poor, then God’s love has not permeated our being, and our love for him is incomplete. Our love for others, then, demonstrates the love of God in both senses.

Having set out the model, definition, application, and test of true love, John concludes with an exhortation: “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” What the world needs from Christians is not more talk about love, but simply more love.
