Bago pa sumikat ang mga beach ng Palawan, matagal nang naririnig mula sa mga kagubatan nito ang mga tunog ng mga ibong dito lang matatagpuan.

May matalim at mabilis na parang tumatagingting na tawa. Meron ding pa-flute na sipol na pataas-baba ang tono.

Habang tayo’y naaakit sa dagat at dalampasigan, ang mga ibong likas lamang na matatagpuan sa Palawan naman ay umaasa sa lalim at katahimikan ng gubat para mabuhay.

Isa na rito ang Spot-throated Flameback na isang woodpecker na may nagliliyab na gintong likod at pulang balahibo sa ulo. Maririnig mo ang mabilis nitong “toktok” habang tumutuka sa puno para maghanap ng insekto.

At sa mas malalim na bahagi ng kagubatan, naroon ang White-vented Shama. Madaling makilala dahil sa makintab nitong itim na balahibo at tila malambing na huni na bumabalot sa gubat.

Patuloy silang nabubuhay dahil nananatiling konektado at protektado ang mga kagubatan ng Palawan, mula bakawan hanggang kabundukan. Pero kapag nawala ang gubat, mawawala rin ang tahanan nila.

Kaya ang tunay na yaman ng Palawan ay hindi lang ang mga tanawing dinarayo natin, kundi ang mga buhay na patuloy nating pinoprotektahan para sa susunod na henerasyon.

Recently joined a Basic Mountaineering Course here in Palawan, not just to learn how to climb mountains, but to better understand how to survive and move responsibly in the outdoors.

For days, we trained under some of Palawan’s top survivalists and outdoor experts, learning essential skills like navigation, rope techniques, emergency response, river crossing techniques, and proper campsite management. But beyond survival, one of the biggest lessons was outdoor etiquette. Respecting nature, minimizing our impact, and understanding that every mountain and forest deserves care.

Mountaineering is not just about reaching the summit. It’s about discipline, teamwork, preparedness, and learning how to coexist with the environment.

The outdoors can be beautiful, but it can also be unforgiving. And experiences like this make you realize that knowledge and respect are just as important as strength.

Wulong Karst National Geology Park felt unreal. The towering limestone cliffs, massive sinkholes, and landscapes that looked straight out of a movie.

Wulong Karst National Geology Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southeast Chongqing, China. Famous for its limestone topography, the park is divided into three main zones: the Three Natural Bridges, Longshuixia Fissure Gorge, and Fairy Mountain.

Pangarap ko talagang makunan ng litrato at video ang ibon na 'to.

Isa itong uri ng loro na may makinang na puting balahibo at may distinct na red-orange na kulay sa ilalim ng buntot. Pero dahil kakaunti na ang bilang nila, halos dalawang taon bago ko sila nakunan ng maayos na litrato.

Ito ang Red-vented Cockatoo, na kilala rin bilang Philippine Cockatoo o Katala.

Isang araw ay nabalitaan kong may sighting sa isang puno sa Puerto Princesa kaya agad kong pinuntahan.

Dahil sa mahigpit na pagbabawal sa panghuhuli nito at conservation efforts sa Palawan, katuwang ang Katala Foundation, tinatayang nasa 640 hanggang 1,200 na ang nabubuhay sa kagubatan at unti-unti nang dumarami.

Hanggang ngayon, patuloy na nanganganib ang mga Katala. Dahil sa poaching, illegal wildlife trade, at pagkasira ng kanilang tirahan.

Kung makakasaksi ng mga illegal na gawaing ito, maaaring isumbong sa Palawan Council for Sustainable Development na may kapangyarihang bigyang proteksyon ang ating biodiversity.
