PUERTO PRINCESA CITY DELIVERS EARTHQUAKE AID TO BOGO, CEBU – MAYOR LEADS INITIATIVE

In a show of solidarity, Puerto Princesa City extended support to the victims of the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu.

City DRRM Officer Earl H. Timbancaya personally traveled to Bogo City to turn over the financial assistance from the Puerto Princesa City government. The aid was formally received by Mayor Maria Cielo β€œMayel” Martinez, together with officials from the City Treasurer’s Office and DRRM Office of Bogo.

The initiative stemmed from a meeting held on October 3, where Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron and members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Council approved the relief effort.

According to city officials, the move underscores Puerto Princesa’s commitment to bayanihan and humanitarian response, demonstrating compassion and readiness to extend help to communities beyond its own jurisdiction during times of national disaster.

Patuloy ang pagtaas ng bilang ng kaso ng Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) sa lalawigan ng Palawan at lungsod ng Puerto Princesa ngayong 2025.

Batay sa ulat ng Center for Regional Epidemiology and Technology Enhancement (CREATE) MIMAROPA, umabot na sa 2,421 ang kabuuang kaso sa Palawan. Pinakamataas dito ang Puerto Princesa na may 530 cases, sinundan ng Roxas (207), Brooke’s Point (196), at Rizal (166).

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, presented to the media a nabbed blogger from Pagadian City who allegedly posted an online threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The suspect, identified as Mike Romero, reportedly uploaded a photo of the President with a drawn arrow on his head, bearing the caption β€œHeadshot.”

According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago, the agency is preparing to charge Romero with inciting to sedition under Article 142 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012). If convicted, he may face six to 20 years of imprisonment.

LOOK: Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. announced on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, that the agency has filed criminal complaints against controversial contractor couple Pacifico β€œCurlee” Discaya and Cezarah β€œSarah” Cruz Discaya, together with a corporate officer of St. GΓ©rard Construction Gen. Contractor and Development Corporation, over alleged unpaid taxes amounting to β‚±7,182,172,532.20.

According to the BIR, investigations revealed that the Discayas failed to settle their income tax obligations from 2018 to 2021. The agency also reported that the couple and their company did not file excise tax returns nor pay excise taxes for nine luxury vehicles registered under their names, as confirmed through Land Transportation Office (LTO) records.

SUC Auditors Gather at Palawan State University to Strengthen Internal Audit Practices

The Palawan State University (PalawanSU), through its Internal Audit Services (IAS) Office, successfully hosted a Benchmarking and Meet & Greet for State Universities and Colleges (SUC) Internal Auditors on October 7, 2025, at the PalawanSU American Corner.

A total of 42 internal auditors from different SUCs nationwide participated in the event, which served as a platform for exchanging insights and experiences aimed at strengthening internal audit practices in higher education institutions.

The activity was highlighted by the presence of Dr. Jonathan A. Gabriel, President of the SUC Internal Auditors Association and a resource speaker for the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on internal control. He served as the main resource person, providing guidance and expert perspectives.

The program featured welcome remarks by Engr. Jerico M. Padrones, IPQAIA Director, and closing remarks by Ms. Charity E. Cabrestante, IAS Deputy Director.

According to organizers, the gathering promoted camaraderie, collaboration, and shared learning among SUC internal auditorsβ€”essential steps for driving continuous improvement and ensuring good governance in the management of State Universities and Colleges.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has issued a subpoena to former Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co, through the Office of the House Secretary General, directing him to appear before the commission next week.

The ICI has likewise requested the appearance of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in relation to its ongoing proceedings.

Details on the scope and agenda of their scheduled appearance before the commission have yet to be disclosed.
