Winners and Learners
By Maloi Malibiran-Salumbides
How do you respond when you don't win? Winners and leaners.
Magandang araw, ako si Maloi Malibiran-Salumbides, partner mo sa inspiradong buhay at trabaho.
Why should we be gracious even in defeat?
1) Defeat is not forever. Hindi nga ba't may kasabihang, "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose." But if you have a winner's heart, even in defeat you learn. Ang sabi sa Psalm 37:23-24 βThe Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.β Dito makikita natin na may mga panahong madadapa tayo, pero hindi ibig sabihin ay hindi na tayo makakabangon muli. Defeat is just a temporary set-back kaya huwag tayong pikon kapag di tayo nanalo.
2) Defeat is a great character builder. But there is still much to gain when you lose, you learn to relate to the pains of other people. Defeat is a great teacher in humility.
3) Defeat is an invitation to learn to depend on God more. Many times in the Old Testament, the Israelites were defeated by their enemies because of their disobedience. That is not always the case. But we will read in the Old Testament that when the Israelites experienced losses, they learned to call upon God and return to Him. When you are at your lowest, call on Him who is our Lord on high.
Sa buhay, minsan ikaw ang panalo. Minsan naman, tayo'y natatalo. What kind of a loser will you be? May we all learn to lose graciously and be learners even in defeat.
