𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | Alejandrino is Trinitian of the Year 2025

𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 – After a nerve-wracking wait, Claire Martha C. Alejandrino, among six other nominees, was named Trinitian of the Year 2025 during the annual Parangal ceremony held at the University Theater of Trinity University of Asia.

Alejandrino is a prolific student known for her steadfast work ethic and active participation in various Trinitian organizations. She has been a recipient of the DOST-SEI Scholarship since her freshman year and was subsequently awarded the Arthur L. Carson Scholarship during her second year which she retained up until her last semester.

Beyond the classroom, she demonstrated her dedication to social responsibility through her active participation in various outreach initiatives including Project HEALS, Trinitian SHARES, and the nationwide non-profit organization “2morrow’s Dream Inc.”

Aside from excelling in academics, Alejandrino also has an artistic side. In her second year, she served as head illustrator for Trinity Observer, and is currently the lead graphic artist and editorial cartoonist for In Focus.

She has also served the student body as a leader, taking on the role of auditor for the Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students (PHISMETS) in her junior year as well as batch Amory’s vice president during her senior year.

She had her local and international internship at the Philippine Heart Center, St. Luke’s Medical Center – Quezon City, and Thammasat University Hospital in Pathum Thani, Thailand. Ultimately, she graduated with the latin honor Cum Laude, further solidifying her track record in academic excellence.

𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜 | Just Around the Corner: Xanthrons to Venture Into Clinical Internship

Last May 27, 2025, the College of Medical Technology’s third year students gathered at the Mandell Hall Auditorium to attend the pre-internship program, a series of seminars and workshops that is essential in the transition of Batch Xanthrons’ from clinical studies to actual clinical internship.

Assistant Dean Ms. Rona Maye Trinidad started the kick-off event with a motivational speech, encouraging students to take pride in the progress they've made and step into their newfound roles as interns with confidence.

The first guest speaker for the seminar, Mr. Carlo Ace De Belen of Emilio Aguinaldo College, discussed the importance of professionalism and comportment in the workplace. He also stressed the importance of integrity, accountability, respect, competence, effective communication, and empathy. “Professionalism is what you do; comportment is how you do it,” he emphasized.

The next guest speaker was Mr. Roberto Cahilog, Jr., representing Elevate, a nationwide student organization. His talk focused on leadership and effective communication, challenging common myths such as the saying that “leaders are born” or that holding titles make a person a leader. Instead, he defined influence as a metric of successful leadership. He also talked about common communication barriers and how to overcome them and encouraged students to develop empathy, learn to regulate their emotions, and practice active listening. His key message was “To grow in your leadership, grow in your communication.”.

During the open forum segment of the program, Mr. De Belen also addressed ethical dilemmas, advising students to document and report issues through the proper channels: “Do what is best for you and what is right.”.

Afterwards, CMT alums shared their internship experience at Thammasat University in Thailand, heavily emphasizing automation in diagnostic testing. They noted similarities between Thailand's and the Philippines' healthcare systems, particularly in terms of work ethic and patient satisfaction, offering valuable insights into the evolving landscape of clinical internship.

For the afternoon session, Mr. Jeruel Makaz Eusebio of Singapore Diagnostics delivered an interactive session on pre-analytical errors, stating that 50-70% of lab mistakes occur before analysis. He engaged students in a team-based activity identifying errors from case scenarios, reinforcing critical points such as specimen collection, patient identification, site selection, and aseptic technique. On the other hand, Ms. Shaira Dela Cruz of Siemens Healthineers introduced PEPconnect, an online learning tool offering certifications, CPD credits, and self-paced modules. She also guided students through a hands-on activity to sign up and explore the app.

The seminar ended with Ms. Aila Nell Sarmiento, Clinical Training Head, formally accepting the Xanthrons for internship.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | Trinitian MedTechs Head to Taiwan for Biomedical Innovation Program

In collaboration with National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU), Trinity University of Asia’s College of Medical Technology is sending top performing second-year students to Kaohsiung, Taiwan on July 1, 2025.

The ten students joining Ms. Rona Maye Trinidad, Assistant Dean, and Mr. Nathaniel Veron Casamina, Academic Head, are Jose Miguel Jaralve, Caryssa Nicole Fallorin, Julia Gabrielle Del Rosario, Kyrish Andal, Sophia Lei Borja, Queen Cee Lusterio, Carla Jessica Mella, Awen Dennize Mallari, Danaira R. Palero, and Romeo Jr. Ceremonia.

Along with the relatively recent addition of the Introduction to Biomedical Engineering course to TUA-CMT's curriculum, this partnership with NSYSU was created in order to encourage students to broaden their horizons and nurture an innovative mind.

The selected students will take part in an intensive academic program at NSYSU’s Institute of Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Biomedical Science as well as the Institute of Medical Science and Technology, where they can hone new skills and delve deeper into the intricacies of biomedical technology.

"I've never been so grateful for an opportunity in my entire life," says Awen, on being given the opportunity to learn in Taiwan. "I am excited to gain a broader perspective on medical technology in an international context."

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | Lilian Grace Lacson Receives CMT Scholarship Award

Trinity University of Asia - College of Medical Technology (TUA-CMT) proudly announced Lilian Grace Lacson as the latest recipient of the prestigious CMT Scholarship Award.

Lacson, who currently serves as the incumbent President of the Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students (PHISMETS), was granted the scholarship in recognition of her leadership, academic performance, and service to the student body. The award, granted by the TUA-CMT administration and faculty, highlights the college’s commitment to supporting outstanding students who embody the institution's core values in both academic and extracurricular endeavors.

The TUA-CMT Scholarship is awarded annually to students who demonstrate remarkable academic achievements, strong leadership qualities, and active involvement in the college's organizations.

In receiving the award, Lacson expressed her gratitude to the college and left a message for her fellow students: "To the department, thank you so much for trusting me with this scholarship. I’m truly grateful that you saw the hard work and determination I’ve put in not only for my own academic journey but also in my efforts to contribute positively to our college. Your recognition means so much to me, and it inspires me to keep going and do even better."

"To my fellow students, always love what you’re doing. Whether it's academics, org work, or personal goals, find purpose in them. I know it’s not easy, especially when you have so many responsibilities to juggle, but remember that there’s always a reward at the end of every hardship whether it's big or small. There's a saying, '𝑚𝑎𝑠 𝑜𝑘𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑔 ℎ𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑝 𝑏𝑎𝑔𝑜 𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑝,' and I believe in that. Learn to balance your academic life and personal life. It's hard, but it’s possible. And most of all, never forget that your efforts matter. Keep striving and believe that your time to shine will come."

After three weeks of rigorous training, Claire Martha Alejandrino, Issaiah Allanne Azcarraga, Merry Ann Balaoy, and Kirstin Angelique Clores safely returned home from their internship training in Pathum Thani, Thailand. They were accompanied by the clinical training head, Ms. Aila Nell Sarmiento, throughout their stay.

The program took place at Thammasat University and Thammasat University Hospital from March 9 to March 31, 2025.

During the program, the interns rotated through three laboratories with six different sections. The first was the central laboratory which included the Hematology, Immunoserology, Clinical Microscopy, and Clinical Chemistry sections. Their next rotation was in Blood Banking and Microbiology, which had separate laboratory facilities. The interns noted that some things were done differently in Thailand, such as the types of technology used in the laboratories.

Being in a completely different country, the interns also faced their fair share of challenges. Alejandrino shared that the biggest hurdle they encountered was the language barrier, especially during the phlebotomy rotation where cultural differences often created challenging situations. However, with the support of the staff, they were able to learn key Thai words and phrases to communicate more effectively with the locals.

Alejandrino encourages her fellow students to seize the opportunity to apply for an internship abroad while it's still there. “Just go for it, [even if you're not sure you'll be picked],” she said. “Not all students are given this kind of privilege. Even if you ask students from other schools, many of them don't have access to international internships,” she said.

In an increasingly interconnected world, cross-cultural communication skills and adaptability are invaluable traits to possess. If you're interested in a challenging, but transformative journey, apply for an internship abroad next year!
