The event provides a direct avenue for producers to offer their locally sourced agricultural and fishery products straight to consumers, ensuring fair prices and creating wider income opportunities for our frontline food growers.

We invite everyone to visit the PhilFIDA booth, featuring our partner-seller from 𝗟𝗚𝗨-𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗿, showcasing a range of high-quality abaca products.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) is currently holding its 7th Management Review from November 23–27, 2025 in Cebu City. The event gathers PhilFIDA’s key leaders—including Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza, OIC-Deputy Executive Director Ramil B. Barcelona, Regional Directors, Division Chiefs, and Section Heads to evaluate the agency’s performance and overall progress for the year.

Throughout the week, participants are reviewing accomplishments, assessing resource adequacy, identifying operational gaps, and refining strategies to further enhance PhilFIDA’s services for fiber-growing communities nationwide. In his keynote message, Executive Director Ali Atienza emphasized the importance of shared learning, continuous improvement, and innovation to ensure that programs remain responsive, effective, and aligned with the needs of the fiber sector.

This 7th Management Review reaffirms PhilFIDA’s commitment to uplifting the lives and livelihood of Filipino fiber farmers. By strengthening collaboration, improving systems, and realigning priorities, the agency continues to push for a more competitive, resilient, and inclusive natural fiber industry.

The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) through its Research Division led by OIC-Chief Evelyn B. Cagasan concluded its second week-long training workshop, “Strengthening PhilFIDA’s Capacity in Managing Abaca Virus Diseases: From Diagnosis to Control,” held on November 17–21, 2025 in Tacloban City. In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the guidance of DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. to strengthen the country’s fiber industry, the activity enhanced the technical and diagnostic capabilities of PhilFIDA researchers and staff through lectures on abaca plant viruses, digital surveillance tools, early warning systems, and field activities using digital platforms and the LAMParA kit.

During the program, Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza emphasized the importance of aligning PhilFIDA’s research priorities with national goals—reducing farmers’ labor, improving disease control, and increasing the market value of abaca raw fiber and value-added products.

The training outputs will help identify priority intervention areas, strengthen disease management strategies, and guide proactive measures to prevent the spread of abaca viral diseases. This initiative reinforces PhilFIDA’s commitment to science-based solutions and supports PBBM and the DA’s direction to build a more resilient and competitive fiber industry.

| During the Inauguration and Blessing of the Silkworm Rearing House and Training Center in Brgy. Tungay, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, PhilFIDA Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for fiber-growing communities.

“This training center and rearing house mark an important step toward diversifying income sources for our fiber farmers,” he shared, highlighting how sericulture can open new pathways for local enterprise and rural development.

The new facility will support practical training, community workshops, and ongoing research—helping farmers explore new skills, develop value-added products, and build more resilient livelihoods.

Nagsanib puwersa ang Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) ng Department of Agriculture at Department of Labor and Employment - DOLE upang bilisan ang rehabilitasyon ng industriya ng abaca sa Bicol na pangunahing pananim na winasak ng super typhoon Uwan .

Batay sa PhilFIDA report, 1,402 ektarya ang bahagyang nasira, 18,097 ektarya ang katamtamang nasira, at 35,699 ang nakakabiglang matinding napinsala sa limang lalawigan na pinagmumulan ng abaca sa rehiyon.

Sta. Barbara, Iloilo — The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) officially inaugurated and blessed the new Silkworm Rearing House and Training Center located at the Western Visayas Fiber Experiment Station (WVFES), Brgy. Tungay, Sta. Barbara on November 20, 2025. Guided by the national government’s push to expand livelihood opportunities for farming communities under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the directions set by Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., the new facility aims to strengthen sericulture production and open more income pathways for fiber-growing households.

The program gathered PhilFIDA officers, local officials, and community members. Ms. Mary Ann G. Nerio, OIC-Regional Director of PhilFIDA RSO VI, welcomed the participants, followed by a message of support from Hon. Joe Marie S. Paghari, Barangay Chairperson of Tungay. Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza also shared his insights on the importance of the project, while Ms. Evelyn B. Cagasan, Chief, Fiber Development Officer and OIC of the Research Division, presented how the initiative will contribute to skills development and future livelihood opportunities in the region.

The Silkworm Rearing House and Training Center is envisioned to become a community hub for practical, hands-on training in silkworm farming and cocoon processing, demonstrations on integrating sericulture with existing fiber crops, workshops on value-adding and product development, and continuous research and monitoring efforts.

PhilFIDA expects the facility to support farmers and local groups through technical assistance, pilot production runs, and direct demonstrations of best practices. The agency will continue working closely with local government units, partner agencies, and farmer organizations to roll out training programs and expand sericulture initiatives across Western Visayas.
