Phivolcs Warns vs. Strong Aftershocks Following 7.4 Davao Quake
The public is asked to be prepared for strong aftershocks after the magnitude 7.4 offshore earthquake that struck Davao Oriental, Friday morning.
Fortunately, due to the quake being offshore, no major damage or destructive tsunami has been reported.
Phivolcs reminds everyone to practice "duck, cover, and hold" and immediately evacuate structurally compromised buildings.
Here’s what you need to know:
• The strongest possible aftershock is magnitude 6.4
• The quake was generated by the Philippine Trench
• The quake has no connection with recent strong earthquakes (like the one in Cebu on Sept. 30)
• Airports remain fully operational, with only minor cracks observed in the logistics building of Dipolog Airport
• Two flights bound for Davao were diverted (one to Cebu and one to General Santos)
