Attachments and other discontents in our life to become a happier person !!
You ever heard someone ask, what is the fuel for discontent? Or what is the fuel for contentment?
For me, the fuel for discontent is thinking that happiness lies somewhere else, the enlightenment is somewhere other than where you are already. This means to us as human is that we are not happy where you are in your life. We say that discontent or suffering is the distance between where you want to be and where you are. Where do you want to be ? Is that where you are? If it’s not, that’s called disconnect. I’m in disconnect phase at this moment, changing my career. I’m in between my comfort zone to a brand new career.
How do you solve this problem? Try changing your idea of where you want to be, making decisions to aligned your goal, making it where you are: “I don’t want to be anywhere, except right here, in this moment of the life, stay focus, stay strong , don’t let the mind become restless. There will be no discontent. If you are content, fully content, you will be surprised that restlessness just vanish.
Being content with where you are is the meaning of making peace. Be here without wanting to be somewhere else, because that’s being dishonest to your reality. Just focus and be in the moment. Then all of your cravings, your wanting, your striving for excellence, all of the stuff that keeps agitating your mind just disappears.
Mind is a beautiful tool which create good or bad attachments. Stop creating this distance to control your mind tool, this separation, between where you are today and where you want to be.
Why is it so difficult to let go of attachments, even though they cause suffering? As of all you know, one of my attachment is Walmart. The job, the company and amazing people are my attachment and my weakness. It is like people who are dying often won’t let go of the body, even though they are in pain and really uncomfortable. They won’t let go because they fear as I fear I will fail my decision to leave Walmart and annihilation more than feel fear or pain. This moment you crave to exist the fundamental, the most important attachment. We would rather be in pain than not exist at all. These things just refer to things that go on our minds. Take thinking for a second, why do people think? Because of the gratification. There’s a delight in thinking. Long as your attachments and your gratification are not in negative mind states. If there were no gratification in jealousy and other negative emotions, we will become happy in this life.
