A family says Roblox and Discord failed to protect their 10-year-old daughter from being abducted.
There's a couple of lessons from this terrible incident.
First, do not expose your kids to internet connected systems with a chat function. This is the primary vector for predators to trick children into communicating with them.
And second,
Roblox specifically is not safe for kids.
The inherent nature of the game is meant for adults. If your kid isn't old enough for p**n, they're not old enough for Roblox. Even with chat disabled, players can still communicate with each other by drawing on things in the game.
And No. 3. Roblox's parental controls are not effective.
I played Roblox and told it I was 8 years old. I had full parental controls enabled, everything restricted as much as it could be, and it still let me play public bathroom and rob mom. In public bathroom
there were people hu***ng each other on beds and in bathtubs.
In Rob mom
I was able to rob an apple store and I sh*t the cops as an 8 year old. With full parental controls enabled.
If you want to let your kids play internet connected open world games,
try Minecraft.
It has effective parental controls. Your kids can play with their actual real life friends by setting up private realm servers that you control.
