The Mcbling aesthetic has grown in popularity recently altough it is often mistaken for y2k fashion. The Mcbling aesthetic started to have first signs around 2001 when the y2k aesthetic began to decline. It went into full swing around 2003-04 along with the release of Myspace, the height of tabloid-celebrity scandals, paparazzi’s obsession with it girls such as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, the rise of Juicy Couture velour tracksuits, Murakami, trashy clothing (not to mention Ashley Tisdale’s messy red carpet looks), handkerchief hemlines, bedazzled anything, the color pink, and so much more.
Basically we can say that Mcbling was the painful hangover after the massive party that was y2k. - Paris Roxas
