JAIL TIME AND FINE FOR DOG KILLER RANDY ROBLES. A former Tourism Officer of Baras, Rizal who shot a dog with an airgun in July 2020 was convicted by Judge Vista of Municipal Circuit Trial Court of Teresa, Baras. On January 15, 2024, Robles was sentenced to 9 months minimum to one year six months and one day maximum imprisonment and a fine of P5000.
Jhon Rey, owner of the gentle aspin named Zeb-Zeb, said he was glad that they got justice for their dog. "Napakabait po ng a*o na yun. Hinahatid pa po kami at ng mga bata sa sakayan. Kaya napakasakit po nung nagyabang pa yung nakabaril sa kanya na siya ang bumaril. Nagpapasalamat kami sa PAWS at natulungan kami magsampa ng ka*o dun sa pumatay sa kanya. Andaming nagsabi na 'aspin lang yan' pero parte ng pamilya namin si Zeb-Zeb."

Animal cruelty is punishable under the law. While the enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act may need improvement, the rea*on why most animal offenders go scot-free is not because of the law but because there are no complainants and witnesses stepping forward.
