Manila, Philippines 30 April 2026 — The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Philippines, the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency, welcomes the expansion of maternity benefits under PhilHealth, announced by President Bongbong Marcos and set to take effect today, 30 April 2026.

The expanded benefits are a major step toward improving access to affordable and quality maternal healthcare nationwide, especially as financial barriers continue to prevent many women from seeking timely care. The policy applies across both public and private health facilities, ensuring equal coverage regardless of where a woman gives birth. It is expected to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and, in some cases, eliminate them entirely.

It means a great deal to us that the project we worked on for a year with Stanford University for Health Education | Digital Medic and CARE Philippines is now being utilized by Community Healthcare Workers in Quezon. Cancer awareness through the help of the HEAL Hub app's videos, modules, and easy-to-follow lessons.

Our work for UNFPA Philippines on International Women's Day
✊🏾 Equality for women means power over their own bodies, their futures, and their lives.
It means every woman can access healthcare, give birth safely and with dignity, and live free from violence, fear, and harm. It means every girl has the right to education, bodily autonomy, and a life free from child marriage.
When these rights are protected, women thrive, communities prosper, and cycles of poverty are broken for generations.
This International Women’s Day, we stand for Rights. Justice. Action. for all women and girls. ✊🏾

One of the projects we are most proud of producing over the course of this year: bringing cancer education to our local barangay healthcare workers nationwide, through the support of Stanford University Digimedic, CARE Philippines, and the Department of Health.
