Heartbreaking tragedy: Pastor Kamran Michael was shot and killed in Gujranwala, northeastern Pakistan, while dropping his daughter at school early morning Friday.

The attacker walked up from behind and opened fire—three shots. His little girl witnessed everything and tried to protect him with his walking stick, but the gunman fled.

Pastor Kamran survived a previous attack for his faith, and he kept serving his church and community with courage and humility.

Why? To mark exactly 2000 years since John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.

The Bible tells us exactly where:
“These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.” John 1:28

That spot, called “Bethany Beyond the Jordan,” is inside today’s country of Jordan (east bank of the river). It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and the place most scholars and archaeologists agree is the real location.
