Although I left mainstream media work in 2007, I will forever maintain and cherish friendship and happy memories working with colleagues from print, radio and television. Many of my print colleagues have now gone up higher in status to become celebrity broadcasters like Linda Jumilia, Pia Hontiveros and Christian Esguerra. All three brought to television their nose for news, insights and professionalism developed in print media.

Christian who, like me and Linda honed our journalistic profession at the Philippine Daily Inquirer, is fast making a name as a Tv celebrity who not only gets the scoops but tackles each topic with depth and substance (in short di mababaw).

Thus, it was such an honor t have Christian interviewing me re the increasing trend by fellow social media operators to weaponize the online medium for propaganda purposes.

“Vlogcaster” Armand Dean Nocum

Armand Dean Nocum considers himself a “vlogcaster” or one who uses video blog to dish out local and international political views with great insight, wisdom and razor-sharp analysis.

A vlogcaster differs from other “vloggers” who deal mostly with non-political every-day life issues. A volgcaster is often a journalist or broadcaster who transferred from the old media -- newspaper, radio and television -- to embrace the news media.

Mr. Nocum is a political campaign strategist and public relations (PR) executive. His specialties are crisis management and social media campaigns. He was a former contributing columnist and investigative reporter of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Now trying to get into semi-retirement -- if his political and corporate clients will allow him to -- Mr. Nocum has endeavored to use his PR and political expertise to educate the Filipino people about complicated public interest issues; and breaking them down to the level of general understanding.
