Guava leaves (๐๐ด๐ช๐ฅ๐ช๐ถ๐ฎ ๐จ๐ถ๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ท๐ข) arenโt just good for peopleโthey might also help keep fish healthy! This study explored how adding guava leaves to fish feed could improve the growth, immunity, and survival of common carp (๐๐บ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐ถ๐ด ๐ค๐ข๐ณ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฐ).
Researchers tested different amounts of powdered guava leaves mixed into the feed:
โข T0: No guava leaves (control)
โข T1: 1 gram per 100 grams of feed
โข T2: 1.5 grams per 100 grams
โข T3: 2 grams per 100 grams
โข T4: 2.5 grams per 100 grams
A total of 300 young carp (about 4 grams each) were kept in slightly salty water for 60 days. They were fed regularly and later exposed to ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ด ๐ฉ๐บ๐ฅ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ช๐ญ๐ข, a common fish pathogen, to test their immune strength.
The results showed better growth and stronger immune responses compared to those that did not. The best results came from ๐ง๐ฎ (๐ญ.๐ฑ ๐ด ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ด ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ). These fish showed the highest growth rates and better resistance to disease.
Hereโs a quick snapshot of the T2 results:
โข Gained about 15.24 g in weight and 5.27 cm in length
โข Grew at 2.01% per day
โข Had good feed efficiency (FCR of 1.66)
โข Showed healthy blood values and a survival rate of 83%
