𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍 | Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has signed Executive Order No. 10, s. 2025, declaring the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools in Quezon City on July 28, 2025 (Monday) to encourage everyone to listen to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and help ease traffic congestion.

The suspension covers Metro Manila and several provinces across Luzon and Visayas.

‎Serving as the resource speaker for the SLAC, School Principal II Dr. Lorna C. Mendoza said, “Let’s champion a culture of learning and excellence,” as she urged her teachers to continuously strive for professional growth to ensure the success of every MelQuinian.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | Open doors, open minds

On a sunny Thursday morning, July 17, the gate of Melchora Aquino High School (MAHS) opened not just for students, but also for the hearts behind them: their parents. There was warmth in the school as families arrived with great anticipation for the much-awaited School Orientation for Parents, setting the tone for another thrilling academic year ahead. In this assembly, parents and faculty members, under the leadership of Dr. Lorna C. Mendoza, School Principal II, also held the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) Elections. MAHS is not only a learning space but also a place to collaborate, communicate, and share purpose, emphasizing everyone's essential part in supporting and developing students' preparedness and community resilience.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | To celebrate the unique talents of MelQuinians in campus journalism and to scout for new members, the Luminary, together with Ang Kamalayan, hosted the 2nd School-based Press Conference (SBPC) with the theme: "The Power of the Pen, not the Hype" at the Melchora Aquino High School (MAHS) Multi-purpose Court on July 5 and 12.

This year's SBPC introduced the Group Categories, namely: TV Broadcasting and Scriptwriting, Radio Broadcasting and Scriptwriting, Collaborative Desktop Publishing, and Online Desktop Publishing, which encouraged students to work as a team, in addition to the 10 Individual Categories.

Each category was judged by talented alumni who demonstrated excellence in the field of campus journalism during their time in MAHS.

During the Closing and Awarding Ceremony, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Luminary and Ang Kamalayan officially turned over their responsibilities to the incoming Editor-in-Chief.

Former EIC Casey Ocasla expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the role, while newly appointed EIC Stephanie Espina conveyed her appreciation, saying she was honored that Ocasla had entrusted her with the responsibility of leading.

As part of the Closing Ceremony, the School Paper Advisers of the Luminary, Ms. Glydelene Magbual, and Ang Kamalayan, Mr. Sherwin Teves, recognized Dr. Lorna C. Mendoza, School Principal II, and Hon. Marlou C. Ulanday, Barangay Captain of Tandang Sora, for their unwavering support of the campus journalists of MAHS and presented them with the “Gawad Panalo” award.

Winners in each category will undergo intensive training in preparation for the upcoming District VI Schools Press Conference this September, which MAHS will host for this school year.

Heads up, MelQuinians! Here are the important reminders about the upcoming 2nd School-based Press Conference!

📌When: July 12, 2025 (Tomorrow)

📌Where: Melchora Aquino High School

📌What time: Around 8:00 am (much preferred if you arrive at school 15 minutes before 8:00)

📌What to bring?
-Signed consent form of your parents
-Lunch, Snacks, Tumbler with water
-Ballpen, eraser, and pencil (no.2 mongol for Copyreading and Headline Writing & Editorial Cartooning)
-Pad Paper for writing your drafts (because you will only receive one contest paper)
-For MoJo: Cellphone and Charger (bring your own tripod and wireless mic)
-For Photojourn, you may use a cellphone if you don't have digicam or DSLR.

📌What to wear?
-Press I.D
-Civillian Clothes are allowed as long as:
•No spaghetti tops
•No ripped jeans
•Any colored t-shirt, your shirt mustn't have any vulgar or naughty prints
•wear closed shoes only
