MATIRA MATIBAY, UERM PALAKASAN 2024
Last night, Monday, April 15, the Opening Ceremony of the sports event officially began at 6 pm in the University’s Gym. This is UERM’s 2nd year of holding an intercollege sports feast, bringing together community and camaraderie inside the UERM campus through the participation of all colleges; Nursing, Medicine, Allied Health Professionals and Allied Rehabilitation Sciences. Returning from last year’s roster of games are Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Mixed Volleyball and Esports (Valorant and ML). This year Chess, Badminton and table tennis will be added to the line up.
To jump start the event, the respective teams and players were presented; this year the College of Nursing (CON) are going in the competition as the Maroon Vipers, the College of Allied Health Professionals (CAHP) as the (Green) Royal Lions, the College of Allied Rehabilitation Sciences (CARES) as Golden Grizzlies, and lastly the College of Medicine (COM) as the Blue Wolf (Wolves). The parade of teams and players was followed by a prayer, opening remarks by OSA Director, Sir Ritcher S. Quitevis, and lastly the Oath of sportsmanship by Marcus Refrima.
Palakasan’s Day 1 kicked off with Men’s Basketball - CON VS CAHP - where CAHP conquered, followed by Women’s Basketball COM VS CARES that ended with the defending champions COM bringing home the win. After the first two games, defending champions COM Men’s Basketball clinched their first win, against CARES, whereas returning champions of Mixed Volleyball 2023, CON, triumphed against CAHP, and to top off the night COM VS CARE mixed volleyball finished at around 2 am the following day, with COM bringing home the last win of Palakasan’s Day 1.
Palakasan will continue throughout the week as teams vie for the championship until Saturday, April 19, Awarding and Closing ceremonies will follow.
