TULOY ANG INIT NG LABANAN SA PALAKASAN DAY 4

The games go on as the teams vie for their places for UERM's Sports Cup 2024.

Men's Basketball between COM's Blue Wolf (Wolves) and CAHP's Royal Lions had everyone on their feets as they tied 37-37 on the 3rd period, with 6 mins 50 seconds remaining on the clock, and although the Lions gave their best roars, the wolves howled a 13 point advantage with only 5 seconds on the clock, bringing home the win; still undefeated, and holding the 2023 UERM Sports Cup Men's Basketball Champions title.

Day 4's 2nd event was Mixed volleyball; Undefeated, and defending Champions
Nursing Maroon Vipers clinched 2 straight sets against Medicine's Blue Wolves. (SET 1 CON- 26, COM -24; SET 2 CON - 25, COM-22)

The night ended with a Mixed Volleyball match between CARES Golden Grizzlies and CAHP's Royal Lions, where the Grizzlies outroared the Lions sweeping 2 consecutive sets. (SET 1 CARES- 29, CAHP -7; SET 2 CARES - 25, CAHP - 16 )

Pressure is rising as the finals draw near. Will the 2023 Champions remain champions ? or is it time to pass the glory to another team?

BEAT THE HEAT WITH PALAKASAN DAY 3

UERM GYM, April 17 — The night started with the first 2 events of Mixed Volleyball, Defending Champions, Nursing Maroon Vipers, blazed the trail of UERM’s Sports Cup 2024 Day 3, as they slithered clean 2 straight sets, against the Allied Rehabilitation Sciences Golden Grizzlies. On the other hand, COM’s Blue Wolf (Wolves) matched up against CAHP’s Royal Lions, where the Lions’ out spiked the Wolves on the third set, securing the win.

Women’s Basketball turned up the heat on Palakasan Day 3 for Games’ 3 and 4 — The Golden Grizzlies (CARES), loss against a 2 point edge of the Royal Lions (CAHP), whereas UERM Sports Cup 2023 returning champions, COM’s Blue Wolf (Wolves), overshot the Nursing Maroon Vipers, with a 33 point lead - the wolves took home the meat with a total of 66 baskets.

Day 3’s finale was a face off in Men’s Basketball, between the Golden Grizzlies and Nursing Maroon Vipers, where the vipers suffered a loss against 26 points.

The Maroon Vipers, Golden Grizzlies, Blue Wolf (Wolves) and Royal Lions continue to fight for their standing throughout the week, but only one predator will emerge victorious in each of the Final matches, on Saturday, April 20.

MATIRA MATIBAY, UERM PALAKASAN 2024

Last night, Monday, April 15, the Opening Ceremony of the sports event officially began at 6 pm in the University’s Gym. This is UERM’s 2nd year of holding an intercollege sports feast, bringing together community and camaraderie inside the UERM campus through the participation of all colleges; Nursing, Medicine, Allied Health Professionals and Allied Rehabilitation Sciences. Returning from last year’s roster of games are Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Mixed Volleyball and Esports (Valorant and ML). This year Chess, Badminton and table tennis will be added to the line up.

To jump start the event, the respective teams and players were presented; this year the College of Nursing (CON) are going in the competition as the Maroon Vipers, the College of Allied Health Professionals (CAHP) as the (Green) Royal Lions, the College of Allied Rehabilitation Sciences (CARES) as Golden Grizzlies, and lastly the College of Medicine (COM) as the Blue Wolf (Wolves). The parade of teams and players was followed by a prayer, opening remarks by OSA Director, Sir Ritcher S. Quitevis, and lastly the Oath of sportsmanship by Marcus Refrima.

Palakasan’s Day 1 kicked off with Men’s Basketball - CON VS CAHP - where CAHP conquered, followed by Women’s Basketball COM VS CARES that ended with the defending champions COM bringing home the win. After the first two games, defending champions COM Men’s Basketball clinched their first win, against CARES, whereas returning champions of Mixed Volleyball 2023, CON, triumphed against CAHP, and to top off the night COM VS CARE mixed volleyball finished at around 2 am the following day, with COM bringing home the last win of Palakasan’s Day 1.

Palakasan will continue throughout the week as teams vie for the championship until Saturday, April 19, Awarding and Closing ceremonies will follow.
