Celebrate 20 Years of Filipino Komiks at Komikon Grande 2025!
Metro Manila, October 18, 2025 - Step into a world where imagination leaps off every page and heroes are born from vibrant Filipino creativity — Komikon Grande 2025 is here! As the country’s longest-running and pioneering Komiks-centric event, Komikon proudly marks its 20th anniversary with a spectacular celebration of two decades of homegrown stories, artistry, and community. Join us on October 25–26, 2025, from 10AM to 8PM at the Bayanihan Center, Unilab Compound, Pasig City, for an experience that promises nostalgia,
excitement, and a thrilling glimpse into the future of Philippine comics.
For the past 20 years, Komikon has been the beating heart of the local comics community—championing Filipino creators, connecting readers to original stories, and building a bridge between the rich heritage of Philippine Komiks and its vibrant modern future. This milestone event looks back at two decades of the culture of creating comics while taking an exciting leap forward with a special focus on science fiction, spotlighting creators who push the boundaries of imagination.
Among this year’s featured guests is Berlin Manalaysay, the legendary creator of Combatron and one of Komikon’s earliest featured artists, returning to celebrate the enduring legacy of his iconic character. Joining him are Rexy Dorado and John Ray Bumanglag, the maverick duo behind Maharlika, an action-packed saga set
in an alternate timeline where the Philippines has become a world superpower. Also part of this stellar lineup is Maou No Sekai, the creator of La Historia, Propaganda Project, and Earth Defense Squadron Animato, whose love for giant robots and deep Filipino creativity continues to deliver stories of larger-than-life
adventure and imagination. Komikon Grande also features a powerhouse Komiks Kalye lineup—illustrators who have made their mark both locally and internationally. Fans can meet, sketch with, and get their works signed by HK Michael, Aaron Felizmenio, Geebo Vigonte, Aldin Viray, Freely Abrigo, Amos “The Fanboy” Villar, Rommel Estanislao, and Jann Galino throughout the weekend.
Adding to the excitement are two special talks that explore the evolving landscape of Filipino comics. In “Drawing A Living: The Rise of Filipino Webtoon Creators,” speakers Vanessa Tolentino, Mariamediahere, and Alvin Bragais share their experiences and insights on building careers and audiences through digital platforms. Meanwhile, Fred Corder of Pocket Full of Pills Comics presents “Augmented Reality In Komiks,” offering a glimpse into how emerging technologies can reshape how readers experience comics.
Film enthusiasts can also enjoy two special screenings. “Komiks with a K” by Jay Ignacio offers an engaging look into the rich history and current trajectory of Filipino Komiks, while “Alimuom,” directed by Keith Sicat and based on his comic Outerspace Filipino Workers (OFW), brings speculative Filipino sci-fi to the big screen. Both films highlight the creativity and potential of Filipino storytelling, with Alimuom available for viewing at an accessible ticket price of only ₱100.
In celebration of Berlin Manalaysay’s spotlight, Komikon will also host a Basagan ng Bakal: Combatron Card Game Tournament, giving fans a chance to test their skills in a fun homage to one of the most iconic Filipino comic characters. Meanwhile, winners of the Komikon Character Creation Contest: Mythological Mecha will be announced and awarded during the event.
Tickets will be available at the venue for ₱250 for a two-day pass, ₱150 for a one-day pass, and ₱100 for discounted one-day passes for students (up to Senior High), PWDs, and Senior Citizens.
