CIDG NETS 2 FOR ALLEGED THEFT AND SALE OF STOLEN RACING PIGEONS IN TAAL, BATANGAS
In line with the focused program thrust of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, POLICE GENERAL JOSE MELENCIO C. NARTATEZ JR., the CIDG intensified its operations and crackdown against all forms of criminality nationwide.
On March 19, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, the CIDG Manila District Field Unit of CIDG National Capital Region in coordination with Batangas Provincial Police Office conducted a police operation against violation of Presidential Degree No. 1612 (Anti-Fencing Law) in relation to Republic Act No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) in Taal, Batangas that resulted in the arrest of two male suspects, and the confiscation of forty three (43) racing pigeons with respective Philippine Homing Association (PHA) leg band numbers, with an estimated total value of Php 2,150,000.00.
A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, Director of CIDG, stated that the arrested suspects- “Steve and Elmer” both of legal age, and residents of Batangas, were caught selling two alleged stolen racing pigeons - bearing ring bands registered under the name of the owner-complainant.
The operation stemmed from a complaint of the owner of racing pigeons, alleging that on March 1, 2026, two of his racing pigeons were officially entered and released in Gumaca, Quezon for competition, and expectedly to be navigate back to their home lofts in Parañaque, within the day.
However, the two racing pigeons failed to return to their home lofts because during their flight they were intercepted and caught by “lambateros” (people who use nets to catch racing pigeons) somewhere in Mindoro.
On March 8, 2026, the two alleged stolen pigeons were posted and offered for sale through social media platform - Facebook for Php 25,000.00 each. Thus, the request for police assistance, and subsequent law enforcement operations in the area of Taal, Batangas where the pigeons are located and displayed for sale.
The authorities discovered and recovered forty three racing pigeons in the cage, when asked for proof of ownership of the pigeons, the suspects failed to present any certificate from the concerned authority to justify their possession and control of the racing pigeons, rendering it unlawful.
PMGEN MORICO II stated that it is the policy of the State to protect property owners and impose penalties on any person who buys, sells, or disposes of stolen property, thereby suppressing fencing and deterring crimes against property.
The CIDG leadership commends PCOL John K Guiagui, the Regional Chief of CIDG National Capital Region (NCR) Field Unit, and the CIDG Manila District Field Unit led by PLTCOL Angelo J Camuyot for the arrests of two for alleged theft and violation of the Anti-Fencing Law. The successful operation underscores the relentlessness of CIDG against all forms of crimes and violations of law.
The CIDG assures the public that it is steadfast in enforcing all the laws - across the country. The Unit urges the public to report all illegal activities in their localities—such as theft, robbery, sale of stolen property, and other related crimes against property. The CIDG is dauntless.
