Speaker‘s quitting won’t absolve him

In the case of Romualdez, he cannot feign innocence about what his underlings are doing. This is akin to the “palusot” of Sen. Mark Villar, who claims he cannot be blamed for the abuses of Primewater, which has joint ventures with 440 local water districts (LWDs), as he delegated the approval process to his subordinates.

Neither can he be blamed for the more than 10,000 incomplete, substandard, and ghost FCPs that sullied his incumbency as secretary of public works and highways from 2016 to 2022.

He needs a basin as big as that of Pontius Pilate for him to wash his hands clean, daily and gaily. Or the excuse of Davao City Rep. Apollo “Pulong” Duterte that he never received the P51-billion allocated or his eternally flooded city in the last three years of the unlamented Rodrigo Duterte administration.

The sister, Sara Zimmerman Duterte Carpio, also joined the fun with P12.2 billion in disallowed expenditures when she headed the Department of Miseducation.

Julia Barretto and Gerald Anderson Confirm Breakup

This afternoon, Star Magic officially confirmed that actors Julia Barretto and Gerald Anderson have parted ways.

“Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto have mutually decided to end their relationship,” the agency stated.

The breakup had been the subject of speculation earlier this year, with reports suggesting the couple was on a “cool-off” phase. Julia and Gerald publicly confirmed their relationship in 2021, two years after the actress was controversially linked to Gerald’s split with Bea Alonzo.

The two starred together in the 2019 romantic film *Between Maybes*, which sparked their on-screen chemistry and off-screen romance.

Now, Julia is reportedly being linked to Lucas Lorenzo, a wealthy businessman and CEO of RCGI. Lucas hails from the prominent Lorenzo family; he is the brother of Erich Gonzales’ husband, Mateo Lorenzo, and Claudia Barretto’s husband, Basti Lorenzo.

Meanwhile, Gerald is rumored to be dating Cignal Volleyball Team player Vanie Gandler, according to entertainment insiders and social media buzz.

BREAKING: During a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, former DPWH engineer Brice Hernandez identified resigned Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo as the key figure behind the manipulation of “senatorial funds” funneled into their office.

Bernardo, who previously served as Manila City Engineer under then-Mayor Joseph Estrada in 2013, was also an official of a mining company that reportedly donated ₱5 million to Estrada’s Partido ng Masang Pilipino during the 2013 elections.

Hernandez earlier revealed that Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva allegedly received kickbacks from flood control projects.

“Si Sen Jinggoy po ay nagbaba ng P355 million at ang kanyang SOP po rito ay 30%. Mga driver namin sa District Engineer Bulacan ang nagdeliver. Nung 2023 naman naglabas ng P600 million si Senator Villanueva. Ang SOP nito ay 30% rin,” Hernandez testified during the House Infra Committee hearing.

Both Estrada and Villanueva have strongly denied the allegations.

BREAKING: Senator Erwin Tulfo directly confronted former DPWH Bulacan District Engineer Henry Alcantara, who had repeatedly denied any involvement in anomalous flood control projects.

During a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, Tulfo presented a damning photo showing Alcantara standing in front of a table while bundles of cash were being stuffed into paper bags and boxes, allegedly kickbacks intended for project “proponents.”

Despite Alcantara’s insistence that he had no knowledge of ghost projects or budget irregularities, Tulfo rejected his claims as implausible, citing the image as visual evidence of his proximity to the scheme.

Gretchen Barretto on DOJ Probe into Missing Sabungeros: ‘I Trust’

Actress Gretchen Barretto gave a brief but pointed response when asked if she believes the Department of Justice (DOJ) will conduct a fair investigation into the case of the 34 missing cockfighting enthusiasts, known as “sabungeros.”

“I trust,” Barretto said in an ambush interview, shortly after submitting her counter-affidavit during the first preliminary hearing at the DOJ.

According to her lawyer, Atty. Alma Mallonga, Barretto’s affidavit, firmly denies any involvement in the disappearances.

“As you know, we have said from the very start that the accusations against Ms. Baretto stand on nothing,” Mallonga stated.

“If you look at the complaint affidavit, the accusations against her are actually recognized as allegations, unsubstantiated, unproven and at the end of the day, incredible; and the witness himself lacks credibility,” she added.

Mallonga expressed hope that the case would be dismissed swiftly, citing the lack of solid evidence.

BREAKING: Former DPWH engineer Brice Hernandez has implicated a certain “Usec Mitch Cajayon” as one of the alleged recipients of kickbacks from anomalous flood control projects.

During a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, Chairperson Sen. Panfilo Lacson pressed Hernandez to speak up, prompted by the reappearance of a now-infamous image showing stacks of cash piled on a table. The visual reportedly helped push Hernandez to confirm Cajayon’s involvement.

Cajayon previously served as congressman for Caloocan City’s 2nd District.

READ: The Philippine Bar Association (PBA) has pledged legal assistance to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure in its investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects.

In a statement, the PBA emphasized that the issue goes beyond public funds—it is a matter of life and dignity for communities devastated by flooding.

“Corruption is not merely a scandal of contracts; it is a test of our nation’s moral fiber. To remain silent is to be complicit,” the PBA declared.

The association’s move signals growing institutional support for accountability efforts, as watchdogs and legal experts rally behind calls to expose systemic abuse in infrastructure spending.
