Allen & Heath AHM Audio DSP Installation
In environments where complex audio operations aren’t necessary, an audio DSP solution offers great advantages. Compared to digital mixers, it allows for more flexible system routing and processing, while providing a user-friendly experience through intuitive software. Additionally, integration with third-party devices is seamless, making it easier to unify audio control with power management, video systems, and more.

For a recent project, ISTP designed an assembly hall system for a K-12 school in BGC with simplicity and usability in mind—enabling teachers and students to operate the system with an iPad effortlessly without the need for an audio expert. The overall theme follows the school’s logo and colors for a cohesive look. (Removed logos here)

UX / UI
From the main “System On” button, all devices are powered on through the DSP-linked power control unit, and the system is ready to use in just about 10 seconds. Users can then simply select a preset depending on the activity: Presentation, Assembly, or Sports.

The Basic Tab provides quick access to the most commonly used inputs, arranged in a clean and intuitive layout. Frequently used media sources are also assigned dedicated play buttons for instant playback.

For events requiring more flexibility, the Advanced Tab allows access to additional channels, with control over individual EQs, Auto Mic Mixing (AMM), and Ducker (DJ Mode) toggles.

The Config Tab offers control over phantom power and AMM assignments, and enables zone control for four different areas within the combined gym and auditorium space.

👉The Pursuit of Great Sound
For most of us working in the audio industry, everything we do ultimately comes down to one thing — creating great sound.
That goal is what drives us to keep improving, learning, and pushing ourselves further. We attend trainings, watch YouTube tutorials, and read books — all to chase better sound.

👉What It Takes to Make Great Sound
There are two key ingredients for great sound:

First, artistic sensitivity — the ability to understand and interpret music. Some are born with it, others develop it over time. This is why mixing, at its core, is often considered an artistic process.

Second, technical understanding — knowing the engineering behind the sound. This is what we often call “the standard.” From the source to the audience’s ears, every part of the signal chain needs proper amplification and processing. Only then can your artistic intent truly be heard.

👉The Role of Industrial Standards
Most of the gear we use for amplification and processing is designed based on international industrial standards. That means devices are built to work within specific ranges that ensure proper performance. Much of what we do — and have done for decades — is already guided by these established standards.

In our experience, systems that follow these standards tend to work reliably and sound great. On the other hand, systems that ignore or fail to meet those standards often face issues — or simply don’t sound as good.

👉How to Approach These Standards
As the AV industry evolves and intersects with more technologies, the range of applicable standards is growing. It’s becoming more important than ever to understand a broader set of them.

ISTP had the privilege of supervising the overall sound for the 45th Anniversary celebration of Christ In You Faith International Ministries in Pampanga, Philippines. Our work involved system design, predictive modeling, on-site system calibration, and live operation for more than 5,000 seats.
