Introvert Guide : Philippine Television, TV5 Media Quest, How To End A TV Disaster and Totoy Bato's .06 TV Rating

TV5-Viva- Media Quest's tv enterprise.... Totoy Bato... recently registered a .06 tv rating. From its 3.8 prime 1 début... the extremely struggling series now... roughly had a 1000 percent ratings drop.

Real talk... the series has a weak narrative... weak direction and weak ensemble. The direction is bad... the fight scenes are less from what is usually exciting. The character agencies are not defined...as well as the confusing plotting as well. Whoever is in charge with this series... does not know how to develop and consistently push an engaging narrative.

Keeping this series afloat... is a financial nightmare. Imagine the amount of resources that the network is exhausting.. only to produce a .06 TV Rating. To complicate matters... the series is literally destroying the primetime brand of the network. Losing valuable viewers... who used to view TV5 's brand as an alternative to the two other networks.

Not to mention the Vivamax memes that obliterates the affinity of the network. Sexy scenes after sexy scenes... and ratings keep on dropping... whoever wrote those scenes is totally disconnected with the dominant viewers of prime 1.

What TV5-Media Quest minus Viva needs right now is time to set up its new programs. Totoy Bato is not helping... for me, to stop the financial and brand hemorrhage... just end it. And replace it with a series rerun. At least, if the rerun will yield the same rating... Cash flow hemorrhage will be arrested.

Though this series is not that good either... but... it is a less painful replacement... Panday starring Richard Gutierrez ... a Caparas creation.. . Or perhaps.... Niño Niña... maybe Kidlat. There are a lot of rerun replacements.

TV5- Media Quest-Viva is prolonging a dumpster fire. All they need to do is to read the comments of the netizens ... and how they blame the director for a terrible primetime series. It may be brutal.. but there are times that a network must remember those who made such a tv disaster... and never hire them ever again for the good of the network's brand and affinity.

Senior Moments : How Popularity and Affinity Are Two Different Things

Popularity does not move the needle of engagement... Affinity does that. When this entertainer, by whim and sheer stupidity, told someone not to watch her movie... that remark resonated... and perhaps marks the downfall of this Fleeting talent.

Nowadays, YouTube content providers have greater engagement compared to entertainers... remarks like this one is a literal PR problem given the hypersonic mode of today's news cycle.

The primary casualty in this case is the movie itself... that despite the ticket price drop, engagement seems to be minimal to zero. So, what comes next from this backlash? Perhaps here endorsements... people might not like buying things from red ribbon or even Jollibee given the face that represents said food products?

The lesson here.,. It is no longer the 2000s... wherein entertainers have this over-reaching popularity. What sells in a stratified media consumer philosophy is affordable affinity that is based on common sense. When ego becomes a factor, you kinda wonder what is the end game. For someone whose talent is questionable... and physical appearance fleeting... popularity is a depreciating commodity. Affinity on the other hand is different... Even if FPJ fire several decades ago... his affinity remains potent... It even provides refuge for an actor who used to make gay themed movies... A imagine the power of that brand.

Walking back the comment is too late at this point. Based on how Viva's previous movie performed... likewise, this movie is a potential losing enterprise as well. If the trailer is the barometer of its potential revenue gain... looking at history, data and trends, when middle aged wrinkled filled entertainers play the roles of high school tweetums... the outcome is below the threshold of 10M or worst 7M.

Introvert Guide : Philippine Television, Prime 2, Simulated Outcome of Never Say Die... Validated... rating of 7.1

Written before Feb 2...

Let's do a simulated outcome of Never Say Die... Feb 2 Premiere.. here's the breakdown

1 Both the trailer and teaser failed to provide a compelling reason. Coming from Sanggang Dikit FR which is basically a crime drama... viewers are once more, provided with the same crime drama that is often episodic... lacking emotional continuity... which is usually the key hook for the stratified viewers of primetime 2.Marketing and Promo are the weak points of the network... Thus what you have are weak teasers and trailers.

2. Affinities of the leads are kinda zero to weak. The male lead's previous series did not do well... as well as his movie. The female lead, given that she has a localized affinity, her performance in Prime 2 via Batang Riles did not or failed to move the needle for the said juvenile drama. So, her potency to drive the numbers in Prime 2 is a bit problematic.

3. Based on the teaser and trailer... the narrative for this one is weak... as well as the principal character agencies of the leads. To be fair. The leads of Sanggang Dikit, though localized in terms of affinities, enjoy a certain level of network loyalty. But the leads for this new series do not have the same advantage. Sanggang Dikit, on a solo channel basis... Enjoys an average spread of 4 to 6 points.... with the delayed telecast... it has a 1 to 1.5 delayed boost. Giving it a high swing of 8 and a low swing of 6.

4. creatives behind the new series... , based on previous works, lack of clear understanding on how hyper realism functions within an action narrative platform as well as the general interest of the dominant Prime 2 viewers.

Based on data, ratings, trends and Vibes...

What is the projected outcome Day 01 of Never Say Die... A single channel spread will be 4 to 5... Delayed boost of 1 to 1.3... with a high swing of 6 and low swing of 3. That is my projection based on the stratified viewers of prime 2 .

introvert Guide : Philippine Television, GMA Talents and Top Three Most Effective Gazes in Sparkles.

There is no need to include StarMagic in terms of talents having those amazing gazes. They have, relatively, a lot of those piercing looks among the list of their talents. But in Sparkles... only a few of them have such amazing gazes... in my opinion.

The gaze is one of the most powerful devices in any narrative. It connects the artists with their immediate viewers. One may have that handsome or pretty face... but minus the gaze... it is like a can full of bu*****ts.

In GMA Network, three artists have that kind of gaze that, in the hands of a skillful director can easily connect with viewers..

1. WynWyn Marquez has this gaze that immediately suggests power in the midst of vulnerability. It somehow provides viewers this sense of caution... of distance... yet it draws you in. Unfortunately, this inherent value is often under utilized. By not providing her with the correct character agency... such value is often arrested to idleness... worse... zero engagement.

2.Marian Rivera differs from what WynWyn has. For me. her gaze is more about calculation. Not necessarily power but more on insecurity which I like given her inherent elegance. When she gives that gaze... what you feel is someone who is about to fall in a black hole... yet it is not by accident but by decisive action. Weird but her gaze is more about what tragedy means... exact opposite with what she looks like. And the funny thing... you tend to have this urge to join her to that end. Again, in the hands of a skillful director, that gaze, when weaponized in a narrative, will connect... instantly... to a wide spectrum of viewers.

3. Julie Anne San Jose or better just drop the Anne... has a more innocent gaze, in my opinion... it is not sad nor hopeful... but intriguing. It is a gaze that is full of secrets... mysterious perhaps... but it draws you to that unknown.. dangerously. Such gaze was utilized effectively in Maria Clara at Ibarra. She even outclassed Barbie Forteza who has no gaze at all... just the physicality of her face... I guess. But what the series provided... when a director knows how to weaponize an effective gaze... the end result is amazing.

Introvert Guide : Philippine Television, Understanding Primetime Stratified Viewership and An Argument For A Different Course of Action For Prime 1.

The January 20 ratings are a revelation in terms of the head to head competition between Encantadia Chronicles vs Batang Quiapo. Given the disadvantages that the Kapamilya tent pole brand confronted,.. the action series managed to inch a win versus its competition using AllTV as a free tv network platform.

Real talk... Encantadia Chronicles is the strongest GMA IP capable of displacing the FPJ brand... any replacement must be consistent on what the fantasy drama is providing... not necessarily to the wide spectrum of viewers... rather more on the GMA Primetime Base Viewers. At the moment... the 2026 theme in terms of engagement is leaning towards base viewers' turn outs versus actual expansion of viewership.

What GMA prime 1 needs is a series that will energize its base. Unfortunately, a derivative like Master Cutter won't cut it literally. Why... let's break it down.

1. The affinity of the male lead is localized to its home network unlike the FPJ brand... that has a more robust affinity.

2. Prime 1 is no longer open to children assuming important roles in the narrative. When was the last time Batang Quiapo employed a plot thread about kids? None... and there is a reason for that. Kids no longer watch primetime tv. They abandoned that platform soon after the pandemic ended. Primetime 1... is mostly within the various spectrum of adults.... from mid adults to senior adults.

3. GMA prime 1 base viewers are looking for an alternative .. different from what Master Cutter is offering. Given the creatives behind the narrative... any avenues to implement the potent advantages of hyper Realism in the narrative will not crystallize... they simply don't know how it works and that is understandable.

When Encantadia Chronicles ends its run... Batang Quiapo... most likely will reach a double digit rating. By March... AllTV rating may have an average of 3 to 4 points... A2Z .... 4 to 5 and Kapcha ... 2 to 3... within the concurrent views platform... doing the math... it has a potential base rating of 12 to 13 in the primetime corridor... status quo average when BQ aired in TV5. Those numbers are the obstacles that a series like Master Cutter must confront in Prime 1. So perhaps... in retrospect... an adaptation of Vincenzo... given the factors mentioned... is a better counter programming move for GMA prime 1... yet the network opted for a derivative.

Introvert Guide : Philippine Television, Declining Ratings Prime 2, Never Say Die and The Lack of Chemistry

The declining tv ratings, first week, of the series... Never Say Die may partly be due to the lack of Chemistry between the two leads. When the inherent narrative of a series is weak... the lack of Chemistry is usually amplified. That is why, developing unique character agencies for both leads is important... mapping those agencies is crucial... something that is absent in the Prime 2 series.

A blast from the past... could have been a unique action plan in terms of creating strong agencies for the two leads in Never Say Die.... the series Moonlighting starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.

In that series... the characters tend to have a push and pull relationship. It is more about the inherent gender tension between an odd couple matrix. Wherein, the male lead is more about doing things in short cuts... while the female lead is more about strict adherence to the process... simple and direct.

Referring to this overview..." Moonlighting (1985–1989) is a stylish ABC comedy-drama series following former fashion model Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd), who is swindled by her accountant and left with only one asset: the "Blue Moon" detective agency. She partners with the smart-aleck detective David Addison (Bruce Willis), engaging in witty banter while solving crimes."
.the whole dynamics of Never Say Die could have been different and more engaging if these were the agencies . You kinda utilized David Licauco's inherent annoying traits with Jillian Ward's cluelessness. The very thing that makes an odd couple work in an engaging narrative.

Introvert Guide : Philippine Cinema, 2026 and What Are The Possible Outcomes.

Philippine Cinema 2026.. and given the lingering low engagement last December 2025... what do movie producers need to know?

1. Definitely teen related and context heavy romance i not work this year. Love You So Bad could have worked if the PBB subculture, leaning towards female teens as well as young female adults went out and supported this highly contextual PBB movie. Giving PBB a much narrower brand in general. Perhaps... female teens and young adults are drifting to a different narrative and genre. What I can say regarding this topic... teen romance may work if the casting has a huge following or command over a given romance fandom. Right now, at an average of 350 per ticket, a teen romance requires a viewership of 2 to 2.5 million. Less than a million, it is not worth producing.

2. Pinoy Horror as a genre is overrated. Any producer who will give it a go producing such a genre in 2026... is either clueless or has the predisposition to lose money. If ever anyone dares to do so... that person must offer something different and less of derivatives from existing foreign or regional horror variants. Furthermore, there should be a sense of understanding how the source of fear really works minus the usual scare tactics. And for local directors and writers... Stop plagiarizing horror classics... it does not work.

3. Historical Drama is critically dead thanks to the Bayaniverse. It totally obliterated any chance for it to make money in any shape or form. If someone pitches a historical drama, buyers beware... whatever interest middle-class moviegoers have with said genre... died... thanks to Quezon and Lakambini,

4. Gender Focused Films is no longer a cinematic novelty. Gay themed movies or even Women-centric stories about motherhood are not anymore fashionable in a sense. An FB page posted the top ten earnings of local movies for 2025... and the collective failed to reach the 1 billion threshold. And scoping the list... dominant is this toxic motherhood themes that middle-class moviegoers are not really buying.

5. What I see, looking at trends, revenue returns, data and Vibes, middle class moviegoers for 2026 are looking for authentic aspirational movies to counter the general feeling of hopelessness. I am not talking about strictly making feel good movies or even screwball ones. Rather... movies that are more of conversations... creating shared values... understanding middle class moviegoers instead of giving sermons about elite cinema from decript vanguards. These are movies that have real conflicts... not the made up ones that ordinary people don't care about.

2026 should be about moviegoers... not the industry nor the owners of cinema outlets. Relevant government agencies must focus on the needs of middle class moviegoers and abandon the nostalgia about lower class pretensions... to be blunt about. And that is my forecast for 2026.
