“Ang mga katutubong gaya namin ay hinaharass, binabantaan, at binabansagang kalaban ng gobyerno dahil pinoprotektahan namin ang kabundukan, ilog, at aming lupang ninuno,” sabi ni Arjel Constantino mula sa Mangyan Iraya Repungpungan sa Malatabako.

The United Nations’ Commission on Inquiry concludes in a report that Israel is deliberately killing Palestinian civilians in Gaza since October 2023, committing genocide which is prohibited under the Genocide Convention.

Read the full report by Bulatlat:

“Taking into account the mass killings of Palestinians in Gaza, the resulting serious bodily and mental harm, and the lack of accountability, the Commission finds that there is a consistent pattern that clearly shows the intent to physically destroy Palestinians in Gaza as a group."

'PHILIPPINES IS ASIA'S DEADLIEST COUNTRY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENDERS FOR 12 CONSECUTIVE YEARS'

Kalikasan-People's Network for the Environment and Environmental Defenders Congress launched the 2024 Global Witness report on the situation of environmental defenders, on Wednesday, September 16, in Quezon City.

The groups said the report underscored that the Philippines remains Asia's deadliest country for environmental defenders.

Laura Furones of Global Witness said there were "8 reported killings and disappearances, not counting additional suspected attacks that go unreported."

"We demand an end to impunity and justice for all slain environmental defenders. The struggle for land, life, and environment will continue," said Jonila Castro, spokesperson for Kalikasan.

Filipinos from a broad range of groups are preparing to flood Luneta Park on September 21 to demand an end to entrenched corruption and to call for accountability from politicians implicated in the ghost — paid for but uncompleted or made of substandard material — flood control projects that span the administrations of Rodrigo Duterte and of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Report from Bulatlat

Data from the Office of the President through the “Sumbong sa Pangulo” website gave information on more than 9,700 flood control projects with a total cost of Php 540.4 billion. However, economic think tank Ibon Foundation said that the information made public is incomplete and accounts only 45 percent of the Php 1.2 trillion spent in flood control projects from 2022 to 2025, based on their data.

‘ALL ROADS LEAD TO LUNETA!’

NOW: Sectoral groups hold a press conference ahead of the protest action against government corruption on September 21 in Luneta, Manila.

Among the calls are: accountability from all involved in government corruption both from Duterte and Marcos administrations; confiscation of stolen public funds; funding basic social services, such as public health, education and housing; financial transparency from all government officials; and ending political dynasties.

Speakers invite the public to join the protest on Sept. 21, which they stress is a crucial movement to once and for all end corruption and change the system.
