From IBON Foundation: Telegraphing to a bully that we’re willing to give anything he wants – including opening up the economy and protecting American interests here – is the worst possible starting point for any negotiations.

The Philippines need not passively submit to US-centric trade norms or the demands of the Trump administration.

Saad ng labor rights group na Center for Trade Union and Human Rights (CTUHR) “We further urge the government to strengthen its enforcement of occupational safety and health standards and hold employers accountable for preventable deaths. Workers’ lives are not disposable; no one should die just to make a living. These deaths must not be reduced to statistics or brushed off as isolated events they demand action, justice, and meaningful change.”

The Altermidya Network condemns the reported abuses committed under the watch of Tacloban City Jail warden Jail Inspector Eva E. Naputo, and Chief Unit

16/07/2025

From Davao Today: In this series of infographs from data provided by the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, we see rice production has been stagnant for eight years and the government has increased its dependence on rice imports to as high as 572,000 metric tons in October 2024.

INVESTIGATE THE ABUSES: Altermidya Network has filed a formal complaint at the BJMP National Headquarters against Tacloban City Jail Female Dormitory Warden J/Insp Eva Naputo for incidents of abuse against persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under her jurisdiction.

Frenchie Mae Cumpio and Marielle Domequil, who are detained at the Tacloban City Jail, have reported through their families and support groups unjust treatment from the jail administration, including: delayed action to health concerns, overly strict visiting protocols, violation of the right to private conference with their lawyers, and many others.

Frenchie and Marielle have been detained since 2020 and face trumped-up charges of terrorism financing and illegal possession of fi****ms and explosives.

They further stated that the warden does not hold regular dialogues with PDLs where concerns may be expressed. The detainees live under somewhat deplorable conditions, with scarce food budget and substandard facilities.

We urge concerned agencies to act accordingly, uphold the Mandela Rules, and respect the rights of persons deprived of liberty. Frenchie and Marielle, as political prisoners, should not even be experiencing such conditions. We call for accountability, justice, and dismissal of the trumped-up charges against Frenchie and the Tacloban 5.

'NAIA PRIVATIZATION IS ANTI-WORKER, ANTI PEOPLE'

Migrant workers, labor organizations, and consumer rights groups denounce the changes imposed by San Miguel-led New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) in the rehabilitation of the country's main international gateway, at a press conference in Quezon City, July 16.

While business tycoon Ramon Ang’s San Miguel Corporation promised modernization efforts, migrant workers condemned the projected increase in rental fees for airport concessionares and higher user and terminal fees for passengers.

Two Supreme Court petitions were filed this year challenging the legality and constitutionality of the bidding and approval process of the public-private agreement. The Makabayan bloc of the 20th congress also seeks to investigate the implementation of the rehabilitation since last year.

'DEFEND TALAINGOD 13'

From Kodao Productions: Political detainee support group Kapatid’s spokesperson has urged the Congress and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to conduct investigations on the Bureau of Correction (BuCor)’s “permanent ban” against her.

“If this is considered ‘unruly,’ then perhaps we need more ‘unruliness’ in the face of cruelty disguised as order,” Kapatid spokesperson Fides Lim said.
