𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍 | Due to expected rain reaching 50-100 mm tomorrow, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC) recommended the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels of public and private schools in the city on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Synchronous classes will also continue tomorrow as scheduled in JCSGO Christian Academy, following the QCDRRMC's recommendation.

The Filipino Month Celebration originally scheduled for tomorrow was also moved to Tuesday, September 1, unless otherwise directed by the school administration.

Residents are also advised to remain alert for possible heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides, especially those living in landslide-prone and riverside areas.

Para sa mga kabataan, madaling maintindihan ang mga salitang ito dahil palagi nating nakikita at naririnig ang mga ito online. Mula sa TikTok, memes, at iba’t ibang social media platforms, mabilis na kumalat ang isang salita hanggang sa maging bahagi ito ng pang-araw-araw na usapan.

Minsan, hindi na natin napapansin na slang pala ang ginagamit natin dahil parang normal na itong maging bahagi ng pakikipag-usap.

Pero hindi naman lahat ng tao ay exposed sa internet gaya ng kabataan ngayon. Kaya kung sabihin natin sa isang nakatatandang “she ate that,” baka ang unang tanong nila ay “Alin ang kinain?” At kapag sinundan pa ito ng “67” at “rage-baited,” baka lalo lang malito.

𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐊𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐊𝐒 #𝟒 | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻

For students, a rainy day may bring an unexpected reason to stay home. A class suspension can mean extra time to rest, play games, or simply enjoy a break from school.

But while some celebrate the announcement, others face a different reality.

Vendors may lose their income for the day, delivery riders continue working despite the rain, and people experiencing homelessness may struggle to find food and shelter. Even animals are left searching for something to eat.

Repeated suspensions also put learning continuity at risk, according to the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM). The commission has warned that frequent class cancellations may further worsen the country’s learning crisis. However, this does not mean that safety should be sacrificed for attendance; rather, it highlights the need for a more proactive system.

With more typhoons expected to enter the country and strengthen the southwest monsoon, rainy days may once again bring class suspensions and disruptions across communities.

Yet, the rain does not bring the same experience to everyone. What may be a welcome break for some can be another struggle for others. Behind every suspended class is a reality we may not see.

Today is August 21st, Ninoy Aquino day—but is it only just a holiday—or is it time to finally call out those who manipulate us today?

Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was assassinated on this very day in 1983. He stood to fight against Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who was the president and dictator at the time.

We often don’t look at history, we see a holiday and the thought ends at that. Aquino spoke out in a time where it was forbidden to and now, it’s our turn to speak out.

Marami ang pumuri sa naging tugon ni Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte sa isang open letter post ng estudyante na nagpahayag ng pagkadismaya sa late suspension habang malakas ang ulan at bumabaha sa iba’t ibang parte ng siyudad. Ikinatuwa ito ng netizens dahil sa pagiging bukas, accountable, at makatao sa pagtanggap ng puna. Pero hindi dito dapat magwakas ang usapan, kailangan ng mas malalim na pagsusuri sa paraan ng pagdedesisyon ng mga lokal na pamahalaan.

Kung kaligtasan ng mga estudyante ang pinag-uusapan, hindi sapat na marunong lang tayong umamin kapag nagkamali—kailangan din nating matutong kumilos nang mas maaga.

Tuwing Agosto, mas nararamdaman natin ang bawat patak ng ulan at ang lamig ng simoy ng hangin. At sa ikawalong búwan ngayong taon, marami ang maaaring mangyari: ito ang búwan ng iyong kaarawan, simula na ng klase ng karamihan, o hindi naman kaya ay Búwan ng Wika na! Samu’t sari na naman ang malalalim na salita, mga tula, at iba pang anyo ng pagpapahayag ng ating wikang pambansa.

Gaya ng bilog na buwán at paulit-ulit na hugis ng numerong walo, patuloy lang ang ikot ng buhay. Ang Agosto ay tuloy-tuloy rin ang selebrasyon sa pamamagitan ng pag-alala sa wikang ating kinagisnan at ang patuloy na pag-usbong nito sa kasalukuyan.
