OBC NEWS DEVELOPMENT: Authorities implemented preemptive and forced evacuations in several communities in Pampanga and Bulacan as water levels continued to rise due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or Habagat.

The evacuations were carried out in affected communities in Marilao, Bulacan, and low-lying areas in Pampanga amid continued flooding.

Disaster response teams in 18 municipalities and three cities in Pampanga were also ordered to remain on alert and ensure that evacuation centers were ready for residents who may need to leave their homes.

In Angeles City, the Abacan River overflowed, prompting the temporary closure of a diversion road.

Two houses were also swept away in Barangay Anunas, according to the report.

Meanwhile, authorities in Bulacan continued their 24/7 monitoring of weather conditions, roads, waterways and other areas that could potentially be affected by flooding.

The ongoing monitoring is focused on conditions that could affect communities as heavy rains continue.

Authorities in both provinces have maintained preparedness measures, including evacuation operations and the readiness of disaster response teams and evacuation centers.

The flooding has affected several areas as water levels continue to rise amid rains brought by the Habagat.

Residents in affected communities have been subject to evacuation measures as authorities respond to the worsening flood conditions.

OBC NEWS DEVELOPMENT: No subsidy was allocated for Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) under the proposed 2027 budget.

During the Presidential Communications Office’s budget hearing before the House Committee on Appropriations on Thursday, PCO Secretary Dave Gomez told lawmakers this was due to the broadcast network’s status as a “government-owned and controlled corporation considered for privatization.”

But he said it may be difficult for IBC’s privatization to be completed within the year.

IBC President and CEO Jose Policarpio Jr. appealed to House members to allocate government subsidy for the broadcast network next year amounting to P480 million.

Quezon City 6th District Rep. Ma. Victoria Co-Pilar shared this view as she manifested to provide IBC at least a “transitory budget” before it becomes privatized.

OBC NEWS DEVELOPMENT: The University of Makati (UMak) confirmed that a student was found dead inside the university campus on Friday, August 28.

In a statement, the university said it has reached out to the student’s family and coordinated with authorities for the proper investigation into the incident.

UMak also said guidance counselors, trained faculty members, and staff are available to provide support and psychological first aid to members of the university community who may need assistance.

The university appealed to the community to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from spreading unverified or speculative details about the incident.

No further details about the circumstances surrounding the student’s death were immediately disclosed.
