On our first Senate Spouses meeting with Madame as President, I remember she was talking about the thalassemia patients she cared so much about. Today we got to meet them, and i know now what THALASSEMIA is.

Thalassemia is a blood disorder that affects how your body makes hemoglobin—the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen.

If you have thalassemia, your body doesn’t make enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin, which can lead to anemia (feeling tired or weak). It’s something you inherit from your parents. Patients need monthly blood transfusions (for the rest of their lives!!!)

It is a very expensive condition.
